The Kaweco Sport Titan is crafted entirely from titanium – a material prized in aviation and medical engineering for its extraordinary combination of low weight, high strength and corrosion resistance. The result in your hand: a fountain pen that at 26 g feels noticeably lighter than brass or steel variants of the Sport family, yet remains equally robust. The surface displays a deep, silky grey with polished lustre – a tone that neither ages nor develops patina. Five nib sizes are available: EF, F, M, B and BB.

Features

  • All-titanium body: Both barrel and cap are made from the same titanium material – no plastic inserts, no coating that can peel away. Titanium does not oxidise and retains its colour permanently, preserving the deep grey finish for life.
  • 26 g weight: Lighter than brass (circa 46 g) or stainless steel, yet with the same tactile feel of a metal writing instrument – genuine substance without fatigue during extended writing sessions.
  • Silky deep grey with polished finish: The surface feels cool and smooth; the polished lustre reflects light without glare – a calm, timeless appearance.
  • Screw cap with posting function: Closed, the pen measures 10.5 cm – genuine pocket format. With the cap posted, it grows to approximately 12.7 cm, offering full grip length for longer writing sessions.
  • Steel nib, made in Germany: The nib is a screw-in unit in Kaweco Sport format – interchangeable with other nib sizes or with a 14-carat gold nib. All nibs are manufactured in Germany.
  • Cartridge and converter compatible: Works with standard International short cartridges and the Kaweco Mini converter for bottled ink. The standard converter does not fit the short barrel by design.
  • Supplied in silver tin with black paper sleeve: The packaging is reusable multiple times – as a pen case, travel container or storage for spare cartridges.

Use & Tips

  • Extra-fine (EF) nib: Produces a fine, precise line – ideal for tiny handwriting, dense notes in small notebooks or technical drawing. On smooth, ink-friendly paper, EF shows its full character; on copy paper, it reliably prevents feathering.
  • Fine (F) nib: Versatile everyday size – writes slender and controlled, equally suited to diaries, journalling and tight handwriting.
  • Medium (M) nib: Classic choice for balanced ink flow and visible shading behaviour with wetter inks.
  • Broad (B) and Double Broad (BB) nibs: For broad, expressive lines – interesting for signatures, headings or decorative scripts. BB reveals particular character with shading-rich or shimmer inks.
  • Ink recommendation: Since titanium is chemically inert and does not develop patina, pigmented inks and iron gall inks are used without concern – the material reacts neutrally. For bottled ink, use the Kaweco Mini converter.
  • Pocket-ready everyday use: Without a clip, the Sport Titan slides securely into any pocket. An optional Kaweco clip (sold separately) in gold, silver, bronze or black attaches without tools and prevents rolling.
  • Nib replacement: The nib unit is a screw-in component – swapping to F or M when changing ink or paper takes seconds.

For Material Enthusiasts

Titanium is among the few metals that, despite their high strength, classify as a light metal – its density at approximately 4.5 g/cm³ is significantly lower than brass (8.5 g/cm³) or stainless steel (7.9 g/cm³). At the same time, titanium spontaneously forms a stable oxide layer on its surface that protects it from further corrosion without requiring lacquer or coating. The silky grey metal tone thus originates directly from the material itself – and remains so, even after years of intensive use. This property fundamentally distinguishes titanium from brass or bronze, which develop a changing patina under skin contact and humidity: those preferring a consistent, cool metal aesthetic have titanium as a lasting choice. According to the manufacturer, the development project for the Sport Titan was unusually demanding – processing titanium requires different tools, cutting speeds and tolerances than aluminium or brass, explaining the extended development time.
