Midori MD Notebook Journal 1 Day 1 Page blank
The Midori MD Notebook Journal 1 Day 1 Page is an undated annual journal in A5 format: 368 pages, one per day, with no requirement for when to start the first entry. The cover is made of natural, unbleached cardboard in cream color, and the binding – an open thread stitching in Codex style – lies completely flat from the first to the last page. Both paper and cover are made from the same material: Midori's proprietary MD paper, which has been continuously refined since the 1960s for use with various writing instruments.
Special Features
- MD Paper (blank): Lightly cream-colored surface with a fine, barely perceptible texture – fountain pen ink flows precisely, does not feather, and stays on the writing side. Fineliners, gel pens, and pencils also glide smoothly across the surface.
- Open Thread Binding (Codex): Individual sections of 16 pages each are bound together with thread, without a glued spine. The notebook lies completely flat from page 1 to 368 – no curling, no hidden binding center.
- Visible Thread Binding: The spine remains uncovered and displays the reinforcement fabric and thread stitching – the construction is part of the design, not hidden.
- Perforated Corners: Each page has a small perforation in the corner. After completing a daily entry, the corner can be torn off – the notebook shows at a glance how full it is and where the current entry begins.
- Index Labels: Included stickers allow for additional organization by months or custom categories – can be combined with the perforated corners as the primary orientation system.
- Cover Made of MD Paper: The cardboard cover is made from the same MD paper as the interior pages – can be written on, stamped, and features the same understated matte surface.
- Undated: No pre-printed date. The daily section is prepared at the bottom page margin for your own date entries, while the rest of the page remains completely blank.
Use & Tips
- Daily Journal Without Pressure: Because there are no pre-printed dates, there are no empty "missed" pages. One page can fill a day – or two days can share one page, or multiple pages can be used for a single day.
- Fountain Pens and Wet Inks: MD paper is fountain pen friendly. Broad nibs and wet inks work well; the paper has a slight texture that keeps script lines clear. Fine and medium writing nibs display writing particularly precisely.
- Sketches and Hand Lettering: The blank surface invites drawings, map sketches, or lettering exercises. Watercolors in small amounts are possible, but should be tested on one page first.
- Annual Chronicle: 368 pages equal a full year plus three days – enough buffer. A completed notebook can be kept as a bound yearbook on a shelf; the spine displays the visible binding as a design feature.
- Combination with MD Cover: The cardboard cover can be protected with accessories from the MD range – a matching plastic cover is available separately.
- Perforated Corners as Progress Indicator: For those who write daily, torn-off corners can be experienced as visible progress – the notebook is gradually changed through your own use.
For Journal and Paper Enthusiasts
Codex thread binding differs from simple thread stitching: larger sheets of paper are first folded into 16-page signatures, which are then sewn together with thread and additionally stabilized with reinforcement fabric (mull) at the spine. Because no adhesive stiffens the spine, the binding gives way laterally – the notebook opens without resistance and without a hump at the binding center. The MD paper itself has a slightly grainy, uncalendered surface: ink colors appear warmer and slightly more matte on it than on high-gloss papers, which creates a distinctive character especially with ink-rich, shimmering fountain pen inks.
