TWSBI Piston Filler ECO Indigo Blue with Bronze
The TWSBI ECO in Indigo Blue with Bronze is a plastic piston filler with a stainless steel nib – clear, functional, and with an ink tank that can be read directly through the transparent grip section. The color combination pairs a rich, dark indigo blue with bronze accents on the clip, ring, and end cap: warm and precise at the same time. Filling is exclusively via the built-in piston mechanism – unscrew the end cap, dip into the ink, screw the end cap back on. Ink cartridges are not compatible; the pen is supplied without ink.
Special Features
- Piston mechanism with large capacity: fill directly from the ink bottle, no converter detour, economical use of precious inks.
- Transparent grip section: ink level is readable at a glance – practical when switching between multiple pens or inks.
- Stainless steel nib in nib size EF (this item): fine, controlled line, well suited for narrow rulings, dense handwriting, and detailed work.
- Available in five nib sizes: EF, F, M, B, and 1.1 – the 1.1 broad nib creates striking line width contrasts and is suitable for hand lettering and italic scripts.
- Bronze metal accents on clip, center ring, and end cap: the surface feels cool and smooth, the contrast to the matte indigo blue of the barrel is rich and calm.
- Grip diameter 15.2 mm: pleasantly grippy without being bulky, remains secure in the hand even during longer writing sessions.
- Not compatible with ink cartridges – exclusively piston filling from the ink bottle or with a syringe via the nib.
Application & Tips
- Fine to medium inks with good flow properties run smoothly in the EF nib – use iron gall inks or heavily shading iron gall inks only if the pen is rinsed regularly.
- The piston mechanism allows quick ink changes: unscrew the piston, rinse the pen with clear water, fill with new color.
- Nib size 1.1 (broad nib) is ideal for italic scripts and hand lettering: perpendicular to the writing direction creates a wide stroke, lengthwise creates a fine line.
- The transparent grip section shows when ink is running low – so no unpleasant surprise in the middle of writing.
- Water-based inks, i.e., standard fountain pen colors, work without problems. Pigmented inks are only recommended with regular cleaning, as they can dry in the piston mechanism.
- For those without ink yet: KWZ Ink Iron Gallus inks harmonize well with the EF nib and show beautiful shading on smooth paper – can be used without problems with regular piston cleaning.
- For those who want to switch between different nib sizes: TWSBI ECO nibs can be exchanged as they are unscrewable as a unit.
For Pen Enthusiasts
The TWSBI ECO uses a piston mechanism with a screw piston that is operated via the end cap – a proven principle that allows a comparatively large ink reservoir. The stainless steel nib is grounded and consistent – no nib pressure, no flexibility, but reliability across many inks. If you want to adjust or change the nib: on the ECO model, the nib unit can be unscrewed in a few simple steps. TWSBI supplies tools and lubricant with their pens, which makes caring for the piston mechanism easier – a point that becomes relevant during longer operation with dry or resinous inks.
