Hobonichi Cover minä perhonen: skyful (Yellow) (A5)

The Hobonichi Cover "minä perhonen: skyful" in Yellow is a Techo cover made from soft cotton fabric whose surface is completely covered with multicoloured embroidered dots – inspired by a sparkling starry sky. The colour scheme was developed exclusively for the Hobonichi Techo and is not available in any other version. Inside and on the butterfly stopper pen loops, a rich, warm yellow shines through, giving the cover its distinctive character.

Features

• Cotton outer fabric with embroidery: The soft, slightly textured cotton fabric feels pleasant to hold. The embroidered dots in various colours create the "skyful" pattern – an exclusive design created solely for the Hobonichi Techo.
• Two thread types for texture and shine: Two different thread types were used for the embroidery. This creates a lively surface appearance: the dots differ noticeably in their tactile quality – some raised and grainy, others smoother with a subtle shimmer.
• Vivid Yellow inside and out: The inner lining and both butterfly stopper pen loops are finished in bright yellow – the same colour tone that makes the cover unmistakable.
• Butterfly Stopper: Two pen loops that also serve as a closure to keep the cover shut. The pen holder accommodates pens with a diameter of up to approximately 13.5 mm.
• Two bookmarks with original lace ribbon: The included bookmarks are fitted with small embroidered beads and feature an original minä perhonen lace ribbon.
• Fully flat opening: The cover opens a full 180 degrees – ideal for undisturbed writing without resistance from the cover.
• Handcrafted: Each cover is unique: embroidery positioning and thread placement may vary slightly.

Use & Tips

• Fits Hobonichi Techo Cousin (A5): The cover is tailored to the A5 format of the Techo Cousin and provides complete protection when carrying the notebook daily.
• Pen compatibility: The butterfly stopper holder accommodates pens with round shafts up to approximately 13.5 mm in diameter – this fits most ballpoint pens and slim fountain pens. Pens with angular grip zones or unusual shapes may be more difficult to insert.
• Colour care: The fabric may shed colour through friction, moisture, or prolonged contact with other materials. Keep the cover dry and avoid placing it permanently on light-coloured surfaces.
• Lace ribbon bookmark care: The original minä perhonen lace ribbon may shed individual threads. Do not pull loose threads away; instead, gently tuck them back into the ribbon structure.
• Embroidered areas: Protruding threads in the embroidered areas are normal and not a defect. Using the cover fully opened may occasionally cause the outer material in the embroidered area to wrinkle slightly – this is inherent to the design.

The "skyful" motif first appeared in 2014 as a Hobonichi × minä perhonen collaboration and has been relaunched for 2026 in a new colour version. minä perhonen – the label of Japanese designer Akira Minagawa – develops all textile patterns based on hand-drawn motifs and realises them in fabrics through embroidery, weaving, and printing. The use of two different embroidery threads is characteristic of this approach: it creates a surface that looks different depending on lighting and viewing angle – sometimes matte, sometimes with a silky luminescence. The cover is produced and distributed by Hobonichi Co., Ltd. under the design direction of minä perhonen.
