Traveler's Notebook Passport Size Refill "002" grid
The Refill 002 grid brings the 5-mm grid pattern to the Passport format – 64 pages of MD Paper in a compact 12.4 × 8.9 cm booklet, made in Japan. MD Paper is the Traveler's Company's proprietary original paper: smooth, white, with a fine tactile feedback when writing. The grid layout provides orientation without dominating – equally ideal for structured notes, tables, and drawings.
Special Features
- 5-mm grid: Uniform squares that enable clean columns and tables while leaving plenty of room for freehand sketches and small illustrations.
- MD Paper – ink-resistant and fountain pen-proof: The Traveler's Company's Japanese original paper shows neither feathering nor bleed-through – even with wet fountain pen ink or broad writing nibs, the lettering remains sharp and clear.
- Saddle-stitch binding: The thread binding lies completely flat – no paper warps away, no crease disrupts the writing flow to the center of the booklet.
- Passport format 12.4 × 8.9 cm: Fits exactly into all Traveler's Notebook Passport covers and still fits comfortably in any shirt or jeans pocket.
- 64 pages (32 sheets): Sufficient capacity for several weeks of intensive use without unnecessarily thickening the booklet.
- Made in Japan: Careful paper manufacturing according to Japanese quality standards, evident in the uniform surface and subtly printed grid.
Application & Tips
- Fountain pens with fine or medium nibs: MD Paper rewards with a silky-smooth writing feel – ink dries quickly, colors come out vibrant, no smudging when turning pages.
- Tables and budget lists while traveling: The 5-mm grid allows hand-drawn columns without a ruler – expenses, packing lists, or transportation connections can be entered clearly and quickly.
- Map and floor plan sketches: The uniform squares are a natural aid when sketching city maps, room layouts, or directions.
- Bullet-journal layouts in mini format: Weekly spreads, habit trackers, or collections work surprisingly completely in Passport format – the grid replaces ruler and counting.
- Combine multiple refills: With the Passport connecting band (Connecting Band 011), up to three booklets can be carried simultaneously in one cover – for example, Refill 002 grid alongside a blank-page booklet for drawings.
- Document archival quality: MD Paper is not archival-quality – for entries worth archiving, pigment-based inks or archival gel pens are recommended.
For Traveler's Notebook Enthusiasts
MD Paper was developed by Traveler's Company (formerly Midori) as an in-house innovation for maximum writing comfort. The surface is lightly calendered but not as heavily smoothed as coated art paper – this gives fountain pen inks enough time to be absorbed in a controlled manner, prevents feathering, and provides a quiet, rich writing sound. The 5-mm grid is printed in a very light, subtle gray tone that barely stands out in the page appearance but provides precise line guidance. The saddle-stitch binding of the refill enables complete flatness – particularly noticeable in small formats like Passport compared to adhesive binding. If you want to use the booklet as a standalone notebook without a cover: the last page contains a small passport form layout for personal identification of the booklet.
