Stalogy Notebook 016 B5 blue
The Stalogy 016 is a Japanese notebook in B5 – a size that at 179 × 252 mm sits precisely between A5 and A4, offering plenty of writing space without being unwieldy. The inner paper at 81.5 g/m² is finely satin-finished and unusually smooth: fountain pen nibs glide across it with barely perceptible resistance, ink dries evenly without feathering. The cover is made from Gokanshi paper – a traditional Japanese paper variety with a fine, slightly textured surface – giving the notebook a soft, tactile feel.
Features
- Smooth inner paper, 81.5 g/m²: The satin surface allows fountain pen inks to dry evenly and prevents feathering even with broad or wet nibs. Ballpoints and fine-liners glide equally smoothly across it.
- Thread-bound binding: The notebook lies completely flat on the desk – no cupping when writing near the centre fold. The spine is additionally reinforced with an embossed fabric strip in gold finish.
- Light grey ruling, 7 mm line spacing: The lines recede visually, allowing your handwriting to dominate. The free header area is ideal for dates, titles or column headings.
- Gokanshi soft cover in blue: The subtly textured paper cover surface is pleasantly tactile and flexible – the notebook rolls easily or fits snugly into tight pockets.
- Label stripe on spine: A white label on the book spine allows quick labelling and identification on shelves or in bags.
- Size between A5 and A4: B5 (179 × 252 mm) offers more writing space than A5 and still fits comfortably into rucksacks and bags designed for A4.
Use & Tips
- The 81.5 g/m² paper handles water-based fountain pen inks effortlessly – even with stub or flex nibs with high ink flow, show-through is minimal. Slight ghosting on the reverse with very wet inks is possible and normal for this weight.
- The free header area works well for Cornell-style note structures: date and topic at the top, running notes on the lined sections below.
- If you use multiple notebooks in parallel, you can use the different cover colours of the 016 series for quick topic assignment – blue, for example, for projects, reading notes or correspondence.
- The notebook lies completely flat thanks to thread binding – ideal for two-handed working with rulers, stencils or when taking notes on both left and right simultaneously.
- Fast-drying gel pens and oil-based ballpoint refills run particularly cleanly and sharply on the smooth paper, as the surface guides the tip evenly.
For Paper Enthusiasts
The inner paper of the 016 is manufactured in Japan and has a cool, almost silky-smooth feel reminiscent of calendered writing paper – with a subtle sheen visible under desk lighting. At 81.5 g/m², the weight is comparatively high for an everyday thread-bound notebook, giving the paper rigidity and dimensional stability: it wrinkles considerably less under wet ink than lighter papers. The Gokanshi cover is a traditional Japanese paper variety created through its irregular fibre structure – visible in the subtly matt, tactile surface that resists fingerprints and remains dimensionally stable even after extended use.
