Traveler's Notebook Passport "005" Light Paper
The Traveler's Notebook Passport Refill "005" is a blank notebook in passport format, filled with Japanese lightweight paper. The paper is noticeably lighter than the standard MD Paper inserts – the difference is immediately apparent in your hand: less volume in the leather cover, more pages per refill. Each page features a perforation line, allowing individual notes to be cleanly separated.
Special Features
- Japanese lightweight paper: The paper is noticeably lighter and more delicate than classic MD Paper. Fountain pens glide smoothly over the silky, slightly rough surface; ink dries slightly slower than on heavily sized paper, but flows with beautiful edge sharpness. Ballpoint pens and fineliners run smoothly; those writing with very wet fountain pens will see slight show-through on the back.
- 80 blank pages: No lines, no grid – the white surface can be freely used for notes, sketches, drawings, or collages.
- Perforation on every page: The perforation line sits close to the spine. Separated pages can be passed on or inserted into larger Traveler's Notebook refills (Regular Size) and stored there.
- Compact passport format: At 12.4 × 8.9 cm, the notebook matches passport dimensions exactly – fits in any jacket pocket and fits seamlessly into the Passport Cover without overhang.
- Thread binding: The notebook lies flat, pages turn evenly, and holds together even with intensive use.
Application & Tips
- The refill is ideal for those who need many pages in minimal volume: two or three of these notebooks stacked together take up barely more space than a single MD Paper refill.
- The paper works well with fountain pens with fine or medium nibs and water-based inks; with very wet nibs or highly saturated inks, slight show-through to the back may occur – to avoid this, write on only one side per sheet.
- The perforation makes the notebook a practical note source: quickly write a note, cleanly separate it, pass it on – without scissors or tearing along the paper edge.
- When carrying multiple refills in the Passport Cover, logically combine the lightweight paper notebook with a second refill for scheduling or sketches – the overall package stays slim.
- Shimmer inks and heavily saturating color inks show particularly vibrant saturation on the bright white.
For Paper Enthusiasts
The lightweight paper used in Refill 005 is known in the fountain pen community for its characteristic writing resistance and suitability with heavily chromatic inks. The smooth yet slightly textured surface is created through calendering of the Japanese raw material; ink stays on the surface rather than penetrating deep into the fiber structure. This explains the pronounced sheen effect with shimmer inks and the even line consistency even with broad writing nibs. Those working with broad pens or flex nibs will see the contrast between hairlines and thick strokes particularly clearly on this paper. Not archival-quality – this refill is designed for daily note-taking, not for documents requiring permanent preservation.
