Refill 027 brings genuine watercolor paper to the Traveler's Notebook Regular. The paper is specially designed for watercolors: a slightly textured surface holds moisture and pigment evenly, while the grain of the color comes into its own beautifully. All 24 pages are perforated – each finished drawing can be cleanly removed and sent directly as a postcard.

Special Features

• Slightly textured paper surface: The texture holds watercolor and wash techniques securely on the page. Pigments settle into the small indentations, giving the color application depth and grain.
• Water-resistant paper: The paper is designed for wet media – it wrinkles significantly less than ordinary sketch paper with moderate water application and remains dimensionally stable.
• Perforation: Each page has clean perforation that allows removal without tearing. In 11 × 21 cm format, each page fits as a postcard in an envelope.
• Blank pages: No grid, no lines – the entire surface is available for free drawing, sketching, or collaging.
• Thread binding (saddle stitch): The booklet lies flat without springing open – practical when painting with both hands.

Application & Tips

• Watercolor & Gouache: The paper takes watercolor and gouache well. For wet techniques (wet-in-wet), restrained water application is recommended; the water-resistant surface rewards controlled glazes rather than very wet washes.
• Ink & Brush Pens: The surface is also suitable for ink, water-based brush pens, and fine-liners – the ink doesn't feather and dries evenly.
• Pencil & Colored Pencil: The slight texture gives pencils good grip; hatching and fine lines can be applied precisely.
• Urban Sketching & Travel Sketches: The slim format fits in any bag. With a water brush and a small watercolor palette, a compact portable studio is created.
• Collages: The sturdy paper supports glued photos, tickets, and stickers without buckling – ideal for mixed-media travel pages.

For Watercolor Enthusiasts

The surface of the 027 paper is water-resistant (surface sizing), which means: color and water initially stay on top of the page and are not immediately absorbed. This facilitates lifting techniques – applied color can still be removed well with a dry brush or tissue while wet. Layered glazing is possible but requires complete drying between layers, as a wet layer can re-dissolve the one underneath. For wet-in-wet techniques with large amounts of water, pre-wetting the page is helpful.
