The Traveler's Notebook in passport size is a handcrafted leather cover with a modular insert system – compact enough for your back pocket, robust enough for daily use. The cover is made from vegetable-tanned cowhide, hand-cut in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The package includes a blank insert on MD Paper – a paper developed by Traveler's Company in Japan that is suitable for fountain pens: no color deviation, no bleed-through, soft writing resistance.

• Vegetable-tanned cowhide, hand-cut: The leather receives no synthetic surface treatments. When first opened, white leather fat appears on the surface – it can be rubbed in with a soft cloth and conditions the material upon first contact.
• Vibrant patina from day one: Scratches, water stains, and color changes are explicitly part of the concept with this leather. The surface responds to use, weather, and touch – each piece develops its own unique appearance.
• Modular insert system: The inserts are attached to a sealed cord inside and can be changed at any time. With additional connecting bands, multiple inserts can be used simultaneously – from checkered to lined to watercolor paper or weekly planners.
• Passport format: At 13.5 × 10 cm, the cover fits in jacket pockets or wallet compartments and lies flat in your back pocket. The format is based on a passport.
• Blank insert on MD Paper: The included notebook (64 pages, thread-bound) uses MD Paper – a paper made in Japan with 80 g/m², suitable for fountain pens, gel pens, and ink rollers alike. No ruling, complete creative freedom.
• Linen protective bag included: The cover comes with a cotton/linen bag that can also be used for storage.

• Fountain pens and gel pens: The MD Paper of the blank insert is fountain pen compatible – colors don't run, no bleed-through to the back. Particularly pleasant with fine to medium nibs and water-based inks.
• Travel diary, wallet journal, idea notebook: In passport format, the notebook can also be used as a compact wallet or ticket holder – travel documents, admission tickets, and notes in one object.
• Swap and combine inserts: Those who want to separate different contents can insert multiple inserts (ruled, dotted grid, kraft paper, weekly planner) simultaneously. Connecting bands hold them together and are available separately.
• Leather care for new purchases: The white powder on the newly delivered cover is natural leather fat – simply rub it in with a soft, dry cloth. No further care products necessary. For those who want to touch up scratches: colorless leather wax based on lanolin or neatsfoot oil deepens the color and makes marks less visible.
• Personalization: The simple structure of the cover invites you to stick stamps or stickers on the cover, attach brass clips or small charms to the closing band – the system is designed for this.

For Leather and Paper Enthusiasts

The leather is tanned purely vegetally – a process that avoids synthetic chromium salts and leaves the material with an open, absorbent structure. This is precisely what enables the characteristic patina: the leather absorbs fat, moisture, and traces of use and changes visually and tactilely over months and years. The insert is made of MD Paper, a paper with a slight cream tint and fine surface texture. The writing resistance is low enough for soft fountain pen nibs, while the surface is firm enough that ink doesn't sink in and colors remain vibrant. Those who work with broad nibs or heavily writing inks benefit from the fact that MD Paper barely waves even with higher ink loads.
