The Traveler's Notebook Passport in Camel is the compact version of the Traveler's Company modular notebook system. The leather cover is made from vegetable-tanned cowhide and hand-cut – the open-pore, slightly rough surface feels warm and grippy in the hand and takes on colour, texture and character with every use. The camel leather starts in a warm, light caramel tone that slowly deepens and darkens through friction, light and moisture – each piece develops its own unique, unrepeatable patina.

- Vegetable-tanned cowhide, hand-cut: No synthetic tanning agents – the leather remains open and breathes. Scratches and water stains are not defects, but part of the idea: the leather is meant to be visibly used.
- Camel tone with active patina: The light caramel tone reacts particularly strongly to friction and hand warmth. Areas that are frequently touched darken sooner – the result is a three-dimensional, lived-in surface.
- White powder when first opened: This is natural leather fat that was worked into the leather during tanning and rises to the surface. Simply rub it in with a soft, dry cloth – it conditions and protects the leather from the start.
- Modular and expandable: The inserts hang from a sealed cord inside. Additional refills – lined, squared, blank, calendar or Tomoe River paper – can be added with connecting bands and changed at any time.
- Passport format: 13.5 × 10 cm – fits in a jeans pocket, a shoulder bag or shirt pocket. A passport is the same size as the refills and can be used as an insert. The format is designed for mobility: quickly at hand, compact enough for everyday use.
- Elastic closure with metal clasp: The outer elastic keeps the cover securely closed, an inner elastic tensions the insert. Both are replaceable.
Use & Tips
- Fountain pens and inks: The included blank refill contains MD paper (Midori Diary Paper), which is suitable for fountain pens – it shows minimal show-through and hardly any line feathering. For very wet nibs or heavily flowing inks, refills based on Tomoe River paper are recommended, available in the LUIBAN range.
- Travel diary and wallet combination: In passport format, a refill for notes can be combined with a zip-pocket or card holder (Traveler's Company accessories) – tickets, boarding passes and receipts can be stored directly in the notebook.
- Leather care: The leather rarely needs active care – regular use is usually sufficient. In very dry conditions or with heavy use, a sparing application of a suitable leather balm without wax is enough to maintain suppleness.
- Breaking in the camel tone: The camel tone reacts noticeably to hand warmth and friction. To actively promote patina: rub the cover regularly with dry hands. To keep the light original tone longer: less direct skin contact and store dry.
- Combining multiple inserts: With connecting bands (available separately), up to three refills can be hung simultaneously – ideal for a combination of weekly planner, blank notebook and sketch paper.

The leather used by Traveler's Company is vegetable-tanned – a process that does without chromium salts and leaves the leather more open-pore and reactive than chrome-tanned alternatives. Vegetable-tanned leather absorbs moisture, oils and friction debris directly and changes permanently – it ages rather than wears out. This makes the camel colouring particularly interesting: light, natural leather shows every step of patination more visibly than darker tones. The leather cover is handcrafted in Chiang Mai, Thailand; the refills and accessories are from Japan.
