The minä perhonen: hütte cover for the Hobonichi Techo A5 (Cousin) is made from high-density, woven cotton – sturdy enough to keep the book secure while feeling pleasantly smooth in the hand. The design shows a group of quiet houses lined closely together like trees in a forest, printed on a green background with clear lines and a fresh color tone. minä perhonen is a Japanese textile and fashion brand by designer Akira Minagawa, whose designs begin as hand-drawn patterns and are carefully transferred onto specially developed fabrics. Each cover bears an individual image through the pattern placement.
Features
- High-density cotton exterior: The tightly woven fabric lies firmly and evenly without wrinkling – the surface feels cool and smooth and doesn't show fingerprints.
- Butterfly topper pen holder: Two pen loops function simultaneously as a closure – a single pen (up to approximately 13.5 mm diameter) is threaded through both loops and keeps the cover securely closed. Gel pens, slim fountain pens, or mechanical pencils fit well; pens with rubberized grip areas may fit snugly.
- PU interior: The light beige faux leather interior is pleasantly soft and protects the Techo paper from abrasion.
- Two dotted lace ribbons: Integrated as bookmarks, ideal for quickly finding daily and weekly pages in the Cousin layout.
- Card slots: For business cards, train tickets, or loose notes – directly accessible in the cover.
- Individual pattern placement: Since the patterned fabric is cut to size, the hütte motif lies slightly differently on each cover – no two are identical.
- Compatibility: Fits the Hobonichi Techo Cousin A5. Not compatible with the Hobonichi Cover on Cover.
Application & Tips
- The butterfly topper loops may feel tight initially – wearing them with your preferred pen for a few days will make them more flexible. Pens with narrow, round cross-sections (e.g., slim mechanical pencils or standard-width fountain pens) will glide reliably in and out after a break-in period.
- The green cotton cover is sensitive to prolonged moisture. Do not store the cover under heavy objects to keep the fabric's shape intact.
- The Cousin format (A5) offers generous space on each daily page – the cover works well with a setup that serves simultaneously as a bullet journal, sketchbook, or illustrated diary. The card slots accommodate A7-sized index cards.
- To keep the hütte motif fresh long-term: textile covers can be gently wiped with a slightly damp cloth if lightly soiled. Prolonged direct sunlight may fade the green base color.
For minä perhonen Enthusiasts
minä perhonen – Finnish for "I butterfly" – was founded in 1995 by Akira Minagawa in Tokyo with the stated goal of creating a brand that lasts at least one hundred years. All patterns begin as hand drawings by the in-house design team and are subsequently transferred onto specially developed textiles, dyed, woven, or embroidered. The hütte motif comes from this design tradition: the row of houses that looks like a forest is a typical minä perhonen image – nature and the human world in a quiet, non-hierarchical side-by-side arrangement. The collaboration with Hobonichi is designed by minä perhonen but produced by Hobonichi, ensuring the customary Techo precision fit.
