Hobonichi Cover Single Color: Amarone (A5)

The Hobonichi Cover Single Color: Amarone in A5 format is a zip closure cover made from Italian polyurethane for the Hobonichi Techo Cousin. The color is named after the deep, full-bodied red wine from Valpolicella – a rich, dark wine red with warm depth. Smooth on the outside with a subtle shimmer, equipped inside with polyester lining and a pen hook. All Hobonichi covers are handmade.

Features

• Italian polyurethane outer material: The PU material comes from Italy – lightweight, tactile, and with a smooth, cool surface that carries a subtle silk sheen. The cover weighs around 290 g, so it doesn't unnecessarily burden the Cousin.
• Amarone color: Named after the homonymous Northern Italian red wine – a deep, saturated wine red without a red tone that edges towards brightness. The color appears warm-caramel in different light, sometimes almost bordeaux-brown.
• Zip closure with matching zipper pull: The zipper pull is made from the same PU material as the cover – giving everything a calm, unified appearance without visible material mixing.
• Pen hook on the inside: The pen holder inside holds pens on the clip – not a pen loop system, but a hook that catches the clip. This works especially well with slender pens up to about 12 mm in diameter.
• Polyester inner lining: The polyester inner lining gives the cover structure and protects the sides of the inserted Techo from abrasion caused by zipper teeth or pocket contents.
• Opens flat (180°): The cover opens completely flat – the Cousin lies on the table without resistance while writing, no flap popping up, no crease in the spine.

Application & Tips

• Suitable for the Hobonichi Techo Cousin (A5): The cover is designed exclusively for the A5 Cousin format – neither compatible with the A6 Original nor with the Weeks.
• Pen choice for the pen hook: The hook is designed for pens with clips. Fountain pens with narrow clips, ink rollers, or ballpoint pens with flat clips sit reliably in it. Pens without clips or with unusual body shapes are harder to insert.
• Color transfer note: As with many deeply colored PU materials, the color can transfer to light surfaces or textiles in humid conditions – especially when new. Placing it in a light-colored bag without an intermediate layer should be avoided during the first few weeks.
• Hand wash: The surface can be wiped with a slightly damp cloth; avoid solvents or cleaning sprays that could dissolve the PU.
• Individually or as a set: The cover is available separately and can be combined with any Cousin Techo – whether with the Japanese or English-language block or a refill block.

For Hobonichi Enthusiasts

The outer material is not generic faux leather, but a specially sourced Italian polyurethane for this series – lighter and more supple than many PU covers of comparable planner systems. Since all Hobonichi covers are handmade, minor variations in seam placement or lining fit may occur – this is manufacturing-related and not a defect. The cover is not compatible with the Hobonichi Cover on Cover.
