Uni Fineliner Pin Pigment-Based 02
The Uni Pin PIN-102 is a fibre-tip pen with a 0.2 mm tip based on pigment ink – designed for precise line work on paper. The felt tip is surrounded by a steel sleeve that protects it from deformation when working with rulers, stencils and templates. The ink – Mitsubishi's own "Super Ink" – dries quickly, remains waterproof after drying and is acid-free.
Features
- 0.2 mm felt tip with steel casing: The steel mounting keeps the tip in shape even under lateral pressure – ideal for work with rulers and stencils, without the tip giving way or fraying.
- Pigment ink, waterproof and lightfast: The Uni Super Ink pigment-based formula is water-resistant when dry, lightfast and acid-free – archival-quality and suitable for conservation purposes. Watercolour washes can be applied directly over dried lines without the ink softening or bleeding.
- Fast-drying, smudge-resistant to erasure: The ink dries quickly, so sketches made with pencil or digitally reworked drawings can be erased without risk of smudging.
- Acid-free and chemical-resistant: The ink cannot be washed out by solvents – important for original drawings that need to remain permanently preserved.
- Coverage approximately 2,000 metres: The ink reservoir is generously sized for a fibre-tip pen of this class.
- Ergonomic barrel with grip zone and clip: The clip keeps the pen secure in your pocket; the grip zone feels comfortable in hand even during extended drawing sessions.
Use & Tips
- Technical drawing and architectural sketches: The 0.2 mm line is ideal for fine contours, dimension lines and lettering – precise enough for detailed plans without being overly delicate.
- Illustration and line work: Hatching, cross-hatching, pointillism and fine outline lines – the consistent line width produces a steady, uniform appearance without pressure variation.
- Working over pencil sketches: The fibre-tip pen can be drawn directly over pencil sketches. Once dry, the pencil line can be erased without damaging the ink.
- Combined with watercolour: Once dry, the line won't bleed even under wet watercolour paint – perfect for classic ink and watercolour combination techniques.
- Lettering and bullet journalling: For fine frames, dividing lines, miniature lettering and small ornaments in planners or journals.
- Tip care note: The fine felt tip is sensitive to heavy pressure – use a light, controlled hand and it will remain permanently shape-stable.
For Drawing Enthusiasts
The PIN-102 is a classic line size in the ink hierarchy: 0.2 mm corresponds roughly to an ISO line weight defined in technical drawing for auxiliary lines and lettering. The steel sleeve around the felt tip is not merely a protective element, but also enables clean alignment along metal rulers without fibres catching on the ruler's edge. By combining several Pin sizes – for example 0.05 mm for internal lines, 0.2 mm for medium contours, 0.5 mm for main lines – you can build a complete line weight hierarchy using only black ink, as used in classical manga or architectural illustration.
