KWZ Fountain Pen Ink Green Gold #2
KWZ Green Gold #2 is a hand-mixed standard fountain pen ink from the KWZ Ink manufactory in Poland – developed and bottled in small batches. The colour sits between muted olive green and warm golden green, with an earthy, slightly yellowish undertone that varies in prominence depending on the paper and nib width. 60 ml comes in a brown wide-neck bottle, whose generous opening allows even broad fountain pen bodies to be dipped with ease.
Features
- Colour: Olive green with gold tone – not a pure green, but a muted, earthy shade with warm yellow reflexes. On smooth, calendered paper the colour depth is most pronounced; on absorbent paper the tone appears lighter and browner.
- Medium shading – the ink shades from lighter khaki green to deeper golden green; particularly visible with broad nibs (M, B, stub nib) and flex nibs, which deliver more ink flow to the paper.
- Hand-mixed – each batch is hand-mixed by KWZ, which allows for minimal colour variations between bottles and underscores the artisanal character of the brand.
- Not document-permanent, not waterproof – the ink is water-soluble and not lightfast for archival purposes. Well suited for everyday notes, journals and creative projects without archival requirements.
- Brown wide-neck glass bottle, 60 ml – the wide bottle opening enables direct refilling of piston-filler fountain pens or those with broad bodies, without needing an ink syringe or converter contortions.
- Characteristic signature scent – KWZ inks have a distinctive, slightly spicy aroma (described as a vanilla-like note with light herbal character), which stems from the fungicide used and is noticeable when opening the bottle.
Use & Tips
- Nib choice for maximum shading: In fine nibs (F, EF), Green Gold #2 appears even and muted. From M width upwards – particularly with stub nib or flex nib – the ink reveals its shading from light khaki to deep golden green.
- Paper recommendation: On smooth, ink-resistant paper (e.g. Tomoe River) the colour appears noticeably richer and darker than in the bottle. On plain copy paper, broad nibs may cause slight feathering – here it's better to use F or M.
- Drying time: KWZ standard inks dry somewhat more slowly than quick-drying formulations. When writing on smooth paper, it's advisable to allow a short drying time before turning the page.
- Flex nibs and wet nibs: The ink flows smoothly and reliably, even in thirsty flex nibs and very wet nibs without railroading – colour saturation increases noticeably in the process.
- Cleaning: As a standard dye-based ink, Green Gold #2 rinses out simply and without residue in clear water.
- Wide-neck bottle tip: Dried ink can build up around the thread area of the bottle. It's best to open the bottle over a surface that wipes easily.
For Ink Enthusiasts
Green Gold #2 belongs to the hand-mixed KWZ standard line – dye-based, without iron gall content. The colour tone is complex: what appears at first glance to be a simple olive green reveals surprising colour spectrum under different lighting and on different papers. On Tomoe River paper the saturation stands out clearly and the shading from medium khaki to deep golden green becomes particularly apparent. The wide-neck bottle with 60 ml makes it easy to refill piston fillers of any size directly from the bottle – a practical advantage over smaller narrow-neck bottles.
