POSTALCO
Postalco is a design studio and label founded in Japan by Mike Abelson and Yuri Abelson Shimizu. Born out of a desire to design everyday objects more consciously, Postalco combines Japanese craftsmanship with an international, functional design approach. The name is derived from “postal” and “co.” and refers to the idea of communication, shipping, and order, things that connect people and structure daily life.
Materiality and craftsmanship are at the heart of Postalco’s work: papers, textiles, and leather are carefully selected and often produced in collaboration with specialized manufacturers in Japan. Characteristic is the use of proprietary materials, such as durable yet lightweight fabrics or particularly tactile papers designed for long-term use. Signs of wear are not seen as flaws, but as visible traces of time and personal history.
Products & forms range from notebooks and stationery to bags and everyday accessories. Especially well known are the notebooks that open flat with flexible bindings, as well as the clearly structured bags that offer function without excess. Everything follows a restrained design principle: no decorative exaggeration, but precise details, logical proportions, and clear user guidance.
Philosophy & use: Postalco understands design as a long-term relationship between object and user. The products are meant to accompany, not impress; at the office, while traveling, or in everyday use. In a fast-paced consumer culture, Postalco focuses on durability, repairability, and conscious choice. It is precisely this quiet consistency that gives the brand its distinctive presence: calm, intelligent, and sustainable in the best sense.
