The Postalco greeting card in pressed cotton, Denim Blue, is made from the same distinctive pressed-cotton fabric that Postalco uses for its snap pads and accessories – machine-compressed, firmly structured, and with a surface texture reminiscent of waxed canvas. The Denim Blue colour carries a cool, matte blue tone that gains depth with use and changing light. A greeting card that feels like a piece of fabric – because that's exactly what it is.

Features

  • Pressed Cotton: The fabric is compressed using the same machines that were once used to manufacture tent fabric. The result is a firm, slightly textured surface with visible weave structure – not smooth paper, but a material with tactile quality and character.
  • PFAS-free: The pressed-cotton material contains no PFAS chemicals – neither as impregnation nor as coating. The surface remains untreated.
  • Ageing like denim: Over time, the white base threads of the weave become more prominent, the structure softens, and the colour develops. This makes each card a material object with its own unique patina.
  • Writable on the back: A message can be written on the reverse side – with a ballpoint pen, fineliner, or pencil; fountain pens and water-based inks are less suitable on this cotton fabric.
  • Denim Blue colour: A muted, cool blue with a textile quality – the weave structure gives the colour a three-dimensional appearance rather than a flat printed effect.

Use & Tips

  • As an accompaniment to a gift: The card sits as a standalone material object alongside the gift, not tucked underneath as a slip of paper.
  • Oil-based ballpoint refills or fineliners with quick-drying ink are best for writing. Water-based ink may spread on the cotton fabric or fail to dry completely.
  • Natural irregularities in the fibre texture – known as slubs – are not defects but a characteristic of natural cotton fabric and part of each card's individual character.
  • The card can also be used as a bookmark, place card, or small label for handbound books – the material is stable enough for everyday use.
  • Keep it dry: Cotton absorbs moisture, which can accelerate colour changes. If it gets wet, pat it dry and allow it to air dry.

For Material Enthusiasts

Postalco's pressed cotton is not textile fabric in the conventional sense: it is created through machine pressing, which gives the cotton cloth paper-like stability without coating or laminating it. The material is PFAS-free and deliberately left without water-repellent impregnation – the surface remains breathable and visibly changes with use. For Japanese product enthusiasts, this card is a typical example of Postalco's approach: an everyday object made from a material originally developed for something entirely different – and therein lies its charm.
