Postalco Snap Pad Signal Red (A4)

The Postalco Snap Pad in Signal Red is a refillable note and planning system in A4 format – not a classical notebook, but an open system that can be reconfigured with each page. The cover is made of Pressed Cotton: a dense cotton fabric pressed on the same machines as tent canvas, with a light water-repellent treatment and a grip that becomes softer and more characterful over time. Handcrafted in Japan by family businesses specialising in their craft.

• Snap Pad™ binding (patented): Two brass press studs with embossed Postalco dove logo hold perforated pages at the top – snap on, snap off, rearrange, without losing or damaging pages.
• Pressed-cotton cover on cardboard core: The thick cardboard spine provides a stable writing surface; the two-tone cotton fabric develops patina with use – the white thread structure becomes more prominent, the material softens.
• Signal Red: Rich, clear red with a brightness that's instantly visible on the desk – no nuances, no grey undertone, just a direct signal colour.
• Cover folds completely back: The cover folds completely flat, creating an especially stable, even writing surface when in use – whether on a desk or on the move.
• Punched at the top – European/Asian standard: The hole spacing matches the standard 2-hole punch widely used in Europe and Asia. Your own paper, printouts, cards or notes can be punched and snapped in directly.
• Holds approximately 100 sheets: Enough for an ongoing project, a month of meeting notes, or a mixed collection of calendar pages, notepaper and pockets.
• Supplied without paper: The Snap Pad comes as a cover only – inserts such as Snap Paper, Snap Paper Plain, Steno Paper, Snap Calendar, Snap Pockets and Fabric Tabs are available separately.

• Use your own paper: Punch standard A4 sheets at the top with a 2-hole punch and snap them in directly – printouts, grid sketches, scans or already written pages can be repurposed rather than thrown away.
• Create a mixed system: Snap Calendar for schedule overview, Snap Pockets for receipts and business cards, Steno Paper for structured notes – everything in one pad, freely rearrangeable by priority or topic.
• As a project board: Loose documents, briefs or research papers stay collected and organised without disappearing into folders – and can be removed or updated at any time.
• Fabric Tabs as section markers: Small fabric tabs mark sections within the pad and allow you to flip directly to the right area, even when the pad is fully stocked.
• Writing surface on the go: The cover folded back provides a firm, level writing surface – for meetings without a table or quick note-taking while standing.
• Paper recycling: Failed prints, single-sided printed sheets or older notes can be punched and reused – the system thrives on an open paper format rather than proprietary inserts.

The Snap Pad™ binding came about by chance: designer Mike Abelson attached a perforated note page to the press stud of his calendar cover – and recognised how satisfying this snap-in action is. The hole spacing matches the standard 2-hole punch identical in Europe and Asia, which means: no adaptation, no special punch, no binding costs. The pages sit securely but can be released without tools or effort. Unlike a ring binder or spiral binding, the pad lies completely flat when writing – no spiral disturbs your hand, no ring lifts the page. The Pressed Cotton surface is treated PFAS-free and shows natural ageing over time: fibre structure and fabric character become more visible, the material becomes softer to the touch.
