Craft Design Technology Multifunctional Pen silver
The Craft Design Technology Multi-Pen in Silver combines three writing functions in a brass housing – manufactured by Zebra based on the proven Sharbo mechanism. A simple twist of the shaft switches between black ballpoint, red ballpoint, and 0.5 mm mechanical pencil. The entire surface – from the tip to the clip – is finished in uniform silver and bears a finely engraved texture in the Sanada-Himo pattern, the characteristic CDT design code.
Key Features
- Twist mechanism right / left: Twisting right activates the 0.5 mm mechanical pencil, twisting left switches to ballpoint – no button, no sliding mechanism, no searching.
- Two ballpoint ink colors: Black and red are immediately available in the same pen. Corrections, markings, and annotations – all without changing pens.
- Emulsion ink (Zebra technology): A combination of oil- and water-based ink, stabilized by emulsifiers. The result: the line depth of oil-based ink with the smooth, fluid flow of water-based ink. Not document-proof.
- Brass housing, entirely in silver: The brass gives the pen a noticeable weight in hand – cool, smooth, with slight resistance when twisting. No plastic feel, no lightweight illusion.
- Engraved Sanada-Himo pattern: The traditional Japanese braiding pattern from the Samurai era serves as the grip zone: the texture provides finger hold without roughening, and visually breaks the clear silver surface with fine structure.
- Spring-loaded clip: Spring-loaded metal clip, strong enough for thick notebooks and pocket flaps.
- Replaceable eraser: A replaceable eraser sits under the end cap (compatible with Zebra eraser refills).
- Refillable: Zebra RESB5 ballpoint refill (black/red), 0.5 mm pencil leads available separately.
Application & Tips
- Annotate and correct: Red and black immediately available make the pen the classic editor and redlining tool – on manuscripts, printouts, or planning documents.
- Sketch and note in alternation: The pencil is perfect for roughs, diagrams, and anything that can change; the ballpoint fixes what should stay – both in one grip.
- Ink on smooth paper: The emulsion ink dries quickly; on particularly smooth, calendered papers, a brief air-dry is recommended before turning the page.
- Refill care: If the pen is not used for a longer period, leave the tip in ballpoint position so it doesn't dry out.
- On the go and in meetings: One pen for all situations – no reaching for another, no second case. The clip holds securely even on thinner jacket pockets.
For Stationery Enthusiasts
The Sanada-Himo pattern at CDT serves more than decoration: it is the trademark of the entire product line and appears on tapes, rulers, and on the multi-pen – a visual thread throughout the entire collection. Historically, Sanada Himo is a woven, flat braid from the Sengoku period that held samurai armor together and was known for its extraordinary tensile strength. CDT transfers this pattern via engraving to the brass housing: structurally as grip texture, aesthetically as a reference to Japanese craftsmanship. Manufacturing is handled by Zebra using the Sharbo mechanism – a patented twisting technology that has been considered the most reliable multi-pen mechanism on the Japanese market for decades.
