- Place the board on a firm, hard surface, position the book corner and drive it in evenly with a bookbinding hammer – several light blows yield more precise results than a single heavy strike.

- Also suitable for retrofitting already bound books: existing corners can be reinforced with the metal corner, as long as the board has sufficient thickness.

For Bookbinding Enthusiasts
Hammered-in metal book corners are one of the oldest protective techniques in the bookbinding craft – long before adhesives came into use, they were standard for archive and school books. Hammering in requires a good base (ideally a piece of scrap board as a buffer) and proper hammer technique: the blow should strike the tab centrally so it wraps evenly around the corner without tearing or bending. With very hard board or grey board approaching the 3.5 mm limit, it is advisable to pre-form the corner slightly by hand.
