Hobonichi Cover Leather: Taut (Gray & Light Blue) (A5)
The Hobonichi Cover Leather: Taut in Gray & Light Blue is a genuine leather cover for the Hobonichi Techo Cousin in A5 format. The leather – a European cowhide, chrome-tanned using the so-called Seta method (Italian for silk) – feels silky-smooth and features a subtly matte, vibrant surface. The front side displays a warm gray, while the back features a cool light blue: both tones originate from a single leather piece, dyed using a special two-color process. When closed, the cover fits snugly and compactly on the Techo – hence the name "Taut".
Special Features
- Two-color leather from a single piece: Front side warm gray, back side cool light blue – not glued or laminated, but created directly in the leather through a specialized dyeing process. As a natural product, each cover is slightly individual.
- Seta leather, chrome-tanned: European cowhide with silky-smooth feel and fine grain. The subtle texture makes everyday scratches less visible – the cover remains refined even with patina.
- Snug "Taut" fit: The cover sits tightly and without protruding flaps on the Techo. The result is a compact, handy format without any slack – ideal for those who prefer a neat, slim planner.
- Pen hook on the right: A hook on the right side holds a pen via its clip. This saves space and keeps the cover slim – without a pen loop or extra thickness.
- Interior slit pocket: Inside, there is a slit pocket in credit card or business card size – for cards, notes, or photos.
- Leather bookmark with gold embossing: Included is a small bookmark made from the same leather, embossed with the Hobonichi logo in gold foil.
Use & Tips
- Compatible with: Hobonichi Techo Cousin (A5 format). The cover is designed exclusively for this format – not for Original (A6) or Weeks.
- Pen choice for the hook: The pen hook works with pens that have a sturdy clip – a slim rollerball, a fineliner, or a flat ballpoint clip sit securely. Very wide or clip-less pens do not fit.
- Inserting the Techo: The Techo is inserted directly into the holder slots of the cover – no separate rubber band or closure needed. The tight fit holds the book securely in place.
- Leather and patina: Chrome-tanned Seta leather develops a subtle patina over time, making the individual wear marks of the natural material visible. Avoid strong moisture and direct sunlight.
- Color combination in everyday use: The gray-light blue combination is subtle enough for professional environments and vibrant enough to stand out on a shelf or in a bag.
For Hobonichi Enthusiasts
The Taut series stands for minimal geometry: no snaps, no rubber bands, no decorative elements except the pen hook. The two-color process on a single leather hide is craftmanship-intensive – color transitions and tonal differences between individual covers are natural and considered a characteristic of the natural material, not a defect. Because each hide brings its own growth features (veining, folding, grain structure), no cover is identical to another.
