Hobonichi Yuri Sanae Cover on Cover for A6 Size (Forest Lake)

The Cover on Cover by Yuri Sanae slides as a transparent PVC sleeve over an existing Hobonichi Techo A6 cover, protecting it from scratches and everyday wear. The "Forest Lake" design depicts a serene forest lake surrounded by flowers, ferns and lush greenery – a swan glides peacefully across the water on the front, whilst on the back it spreads its wings, with butterflies hidden among the plants. The print was executed using screen printing in five colours: yellow, navy and violet as the base palette, complemented by white and silver inks that lend depth and a subtly lustrous quality to the design. Illustrator and graphic designer Yuri Sanae lives in Sapporo and has worked as a freelancer since 2023 – her visual language combines botanical precision with calm, atmospheric colour.

Features

• Five-colour screen print: Yellow, navy, violet, white and silver – the silver and white inks stand out particularly clearly on the transparent PVC and create fine, luminous contours in the design.
• Transparent PVC: The sleeve lies smooth and clear over the cover; the colour of the cover beneath remains visible and acts as the background to the design – a solid-coloured cover (e.g. from the Colors series) changes the overall appearance of the illustration.
• Personal space between layers: Postcards, photographs or stickers can be inserted and swapped between the cover and sleeve – the look is therefore adaptable at any time without altering the Techo itself.
• No exterior pocket slot: Deliberately omitted so the illustration remains complete all around – the design runs uninterrupted across the entire surface.
• Feather-light: 23 g, 0.6 mm thick – the Cover on Cover adds hardly any volume or weight to the Techo.
• Fit for Colors covers and printed covers: Specifically designed for A6 original covers with butterfly clasp. Leather and faux leather covers are not compatible.

Use & Tips

• Combination with solid-colour cover: A flat, solid-colour cover from the Hobonichi Colors series makes the forest lake design particularly striking – warm tones (mustard yellow, terracotta) highlight the yellow and violet of the illustration, dark tones make the silver prints glow more prominently.
• Postcard holder: An A6 postcard or folded sheet fits in the space between – practical for travel photos, reminder notes or seasonal designs that change with the cover.
• Care: PVC becomes stiffer in cold – in a jacket pocket or at room temperature the sleeve remains flexible and easy to remove and replace.
• Not directly on the book: The Cover on Cover is designed for the A6 cover, not for the bare Techo block. The butterfly clasp on the cover provides the necessary grip.
• Cleaning: The smooth PVC surface can be wiped clean with a slightly damp cloth.

For Hobonichi Enthusiasts

The printing technique makes a practical difference: screen printing on PVC allows opaque white and silver layers that would be scarcely achievable with digital printing on transparent material. The silver appears not as a metallic foil but as printing ink – the lustre is subtle and varies depending on the light. If you own several Hobonichi A6 covers, you can easily switch the Cover on Cover: simply peel it off and place it on another compatible cover – the design takes on a new character each time, depending on the colour of the cover beneath.
