Hobonichi Cover Yoshie Watanabe: Petit Bloom (A6)
The Hobonichi Cover Yoshie Watanabe: Petit Bloom is an A6-format Techo sleeve created in collaboration with Japanese art director Yoshie Watanabe. The Petit Bloom design brings delicately structured blossom forms to a restrained, elegant colour palette – clean lines, soft tones, no ornamentation for its own sake. The sleeve is made from polyester with a subtle sheen that makes the motif stand out plastically whilst remaining robust enough for everyday use.
Features
- Petit Bloom design by Yoshie Watanabe: The pattern showcases intricate blossom forms in a clear, graphically reduced style – no sweeping romanticism, but precisely placed shapes with a calm colour palette. The result feels refined and understated at once.
- Polyester exterior with glossy finish: The surface is smooth and pleasantly cool to the touch; the weave gives the cover a comfortable firmness without noticeable weight. Print colours appear vibrant and razor-sharp on this substrate.
- Butterfly-stopper pen holders: Two elastic pen holders sit on either side and serve as a closure – inserting a pen keeps the sleeve securely shut. Compatible with slim round shafts up to approximately 11–12 mm diameter, such as mechanical pencils, slim ballpoints or thin fineliner pens.
- Interior pockets: The inside offers multiple slip pockets for business cards, stickers, entry tickets or small notes – everything you need close at hand without burdening the book.
- Compatibility: Fits all Hobonichi Techo Original (A6), Avec (both half-year volumes), Planner and Day-Free in A6 format.
Use & Tips
- Pen selection: The butterfly-stopper reliably holds slim writing instruments with round shafts. Very angular or clipped pens with wide clips may stretch the mechanism slightly – slim mechanical pencils or fineliner pens with thin shafts are ideal.
- Combination with your Techo interior: The Petit Bloom motif pairs beautifully with pastel or grey inks, as well as with fine pen drawings on the Tomoe River paper of your Techo bookblock. The cover's calm colour palette doesn't diminish stronger ink colours but rather frames them.
- Using the interior pockets: The card pocket is perfect for a spare pen, half-year divider cards in credit-card format, or Hobonichi stickers you want within reach without loose pages in the bookblock.
- Cover on Cover: If you want to protect or vary the Petit Bloom motif, you can add a transparent Hobonichi Cover on Cover for A6 – this lets you slip postcards or printouts behind the transparent outer layer.
- Avec usage: Both Avec half-year volumes fit in the same cover. When switching to the second volume, simply exchange the bookblock interior – the sleeve stays the same.
For Techo Enthusiasts
Yoshie Watanabe works as an art director and is known for a style combining elegance with reduction. The Petit Bloom collection for 2027 demonstrates this approach consistently: the pattern eschews naturalistic detail in favour of stylised blossom forms with a textile quality – as though printed on fabric rather than synthetic fibre. The polyester weave reinforces this impression through its subtly textured surface. If you collect Hobonichi covers by their design language, you'll find here a piece that holds its own distinctive middle ground between illustrative artist covers and monochrome colour covers.
