The Petit Bloom Cover was created in collaboration with art director Yoshie Watanabe and belongs to the Hobonichi Techo Collection 2027. The design features small-scale floral patterns in a refined color palette – calm in tone, yet rich in detail density. The cover fits all A5 books of the Hobonichi Techo system: Cousin, Avec, and Day-Free.
Special Features
- Petit Bloom – Floral pattern by Yoshie Watanabe: The motif shows small-scale flowers in a coordinated color palette. The texture of the cover interacts with the pattern: light and tactile grip make the design appear different depending on the angle.
- Fit for the A5 system: The cover is precisely sized for Hobonichi books in A5 format – Cousin, Avec, and Day-Free fit snugly and without play.
- Pen loop: Integrated pen loop on the side for pens up to approximately 13.5 mm in diameter – sufficient for most fine-liners, ballpoint pens, and slim fountain pens.
- Lightweight: The cover adds barely any weight to the book and remains convenient to carry in a bag.
Application & Tips
- Combination with Cousin books: The Petit Bloom Cover can be combined with the Hobonichi Cousin (January and April start) as well as the Day-Free A5 – each available as a cover only, so existing books can simply be reused.
- Pen selection: Slim fine-liners (e.g., 0.3–0.5 mm) or a compact ballpoint pen with oil-based ink fit easily in the pen loop and slide out the side without jamming. Fountain pens up to approximately 12–13 mm grip diameter are also compatible.
- Avec usage: If you use the Hobonichi Avec (two half-year volumes), simply swap the inner book mid-year – the cover stays the same, and the swap takes seconds.
For Techo Enthusiasts
Yoshie Watanabe works as an art director and is known for a clearly structured, typographically conscious style. The Petit Bloom line within the 2027 Collection focuses on texture as a design tool: The surface material of the cover reacts to the printed floral motif in such a way that color depth and tactile impression work together. This is a different approach than the solid-color covers in the Colors Series – there, the material color is in the foreground, here it is the relationship between the printed image and surface texture.
