Hobonichi Cover mina perhonen: felice - Blue (A5)
The 'felice' textile by minä perhonen belongs to the Autumn/Winter 2024–25 collection – a fabric on which birds and butterflies gently approach flowers, a message that joy is something meant to be shared. Hobonichi has incorporated this motif into a cover for the A5 Cousin format: an all-round zip-closable protective sleeve made from handcrafted textile, combining fashionable appeal with functional pen holder. The interior of the cover features a clear blue – gentle, cool, and in striking contrast to the patterned fabric outside.
Features
- felice textile (Autumn/Winter 2024–25): Birds and butterflies amongst blossoms – a hand-drawn motif specially dyed and woven by minä perhonen to speak as textile. The pattern carries a narrative quality that reveals itself differently with each wear and touch.
- All-round zip closure: The cover closes completely around the perimeter – your book sits protected, even in unstructured bags. The zip pull is made from natural leather.
- Pen holder inside: The integrated pen holder grips the pen at the clip – suitable for pens up to 13.5 mm in diameter. It sits snugly at first; a few gentle rolls in your hand will break it in quickly.
- Handmade with characteristic tolerance: Each cover is handcrafted. Small variations in fit and stitching, gentle waves along the outer seams – these are hallmarks of handwork, not defects.
- 180° opening: The cover opens completely flat, enabling free, pressure-free writing right to the binding.
- Blue interior: The blue lining creates a calm contrast to the floral exterior fabric – clear, fresh, understated.
Use & Tips
- Pen selection: The pen holder grips at the clip – ideal for gel rollers, ballpoints or fine-liners with a solid clip. Pens with tapered or textured surfaces may be harder to fit. Diameters up to 13.5 mm fit without issue.
- Breaking in the pen holder: Before first use, roll the pen holder several times in your hand – this makes inserting and removing your pen significantly smoother.
- Caring for the textile: The felice weave is sensitive to moisture and prolonged pressure. Don't store the cover under heavy objects; avoid humid environments to prevent colour changes.
- Book format: The cover fits the Hobonichi Techo Cousin (A5) – the book is sold separately and is not included in the package.
- As a gift: The minä perhonen textile with its distinctive aesthetic expression makes this cover a standalone object – perfect for fellow Techo enthusiasts with an eye for Japanese textile design.
For Techo & Textile Enthusiasts
minä perhonen was founded in 1995 by designer Akira Minagawa under the name minä, and renamed minä perhonen in 2003 – Finnish for 'I, butterfly'. Each textile begins as a hand-drawn design and is then transformed into a garment or accessory through embroidery, weaving or specialised dyeing techniques. The felice motif comes from the Autumn/Winter 2024–25 collection and bears its name with purpose: the Italian word for 'happy' describes the spirit in which the pattern was conceived – joy as something that flows between living things, like birds and butterflies amongst blossoms. The collaboration between Hobonichi and minä perhonen is produced and distributed by Hobonichi Co., Ltd. under the creative direction of minä perhonen; all enquiries are handled exclusively through the Hobonichi Store.
