The Hobonichi Techo Weeks pocket planner from the V&A Series features the Leicester design: a cover created through collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum that draws on the museum's textile and decorative pattern traditions. This cover displays the "Leicester" wallpaper pattern designed by John Henry Dwarle in 1912. The narrow, tall format – approximately the size of an elongated wallet – is made of cream-colored Tomoe River paper, renowned for its ink compatibility and lightweight quality. The English-language edition starts with Monday and covers the entire calendar year 2027.

Highlights

  • Tomoe River Paper (cream): Thin yet tear-resistant paper with a smooth surface – fountain pen inks flow richly, show minimal bleed-through, and dry on the creamy base with a particularly warm color tone. Fine to medium-width pens, gel rollers, and fineliners work reliably here.
  • Weekly Planning + Memo Page: Left page: weekly calendar with horizontal daily lines, Monday–Sunday. Right page: blank grid page (3.55 mm grid) for notes, sketches, or tracking tables – the open counterpoint to the structured weekly view.
  • Large Notepad at the End: Several dozen additional grid pages in the back section, with its own table of contents – usable as a standalone notebook within the planner.
  • Integrated Cover: The Weeks comes with its own book binding and requires no separate case. The V&A Leicester design sits directly on the cover, embossed with the year 2027.
  • Two Bookmarks: Two bound ribbon bookmarks enable quick switching between the weekly calendar and notepad.
  • Adhesive Pocket: A transparent adhesive pocket is included – for receipts, business cards, or sticker sheets.
  • English Edition: All labels in English, no Japanese on the calendar pages. Week starts: Monday.

Usage & Tips

  • Fountain Pens and Tomoe River: Inks dry slightly slower on Tomoe River than on calendered paper – those writing with broad nibs or saturated inks should let it drip briefly or insert blotting paper. In return, sheen effects and ink shading are particularly beautiful.
  • 3.55 mm Grid on the Memo Page: The fine grid is suitable for small handwriting, habit trackers, or miniature sketches. Those writing with fineliners or 0.3 mm ballpoint refills work well with the tight grid.
  • Parallel Use: The Weeks works well as a weekly planner alongside a daily notebook – the compact tall format fits in any jacket pocket and is quickly at hand when the larger notebook isn't available.
  • Notepad as Bullet Journal Core: The extensive notepad in the back is ideal for index pages and collections in bullet journal style; the included blank table of contents supports this.
  • Sticker Sheets: Hobonichi-compatible stickers for the 3.55 mm grid can be placed precisely on the memo pages and enhance weekly planning visually without burdening the thin pages.

For Planner Enthusiasts

The Tomoe River paper of the Weeks edition is cream-colored – unlike many other Hobonichi formats that use white paper. This tint noticeably affects the appearance of ink colors: cool blue tones appear warmer, earthy inks gain more depth. The paper is not archival – for permanently archivable records, pigment-based or archival inks are recommended. The 3.55 mm grid is the finest in the Hobonichi range; those switching from other Hobonichi formats (3.7 mm or 4 mm) will notice the difference as soon as they align stickers or tables. The thread binding allows the book to lie flat – at 240 pages and approximately 130 g, it remains hardly thicker than a centimeter.
