The Hobonichi HON is a daily planner in A6 format with a permanently integrated hardcover – designed as a complete, self-contained book that requires no additional cover. The V&A Series "Vine" was created in collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the world's largest museum for applied arts and design. The vine motif comes from the V&A's historical textile and design collections from 1873 and makes the cover an independent object with ornamental depth. Inside: proven Tomoe River Paper, one-day layout per page, thread-bound flat binding.

Special Features

  • Integrated hardcover with V&A vine motif: The "Vine" design is printed directly onto the hardcover – no separate dust jacket needed. The book spine bears the year and HON logo, making the planner immediately recognizable on the shelf.
  • Tomoe River Paper: Thin yet durable paper with a smooth, slightly cream-colored surface. Ink dries evenly; ink expansion and shading are particularly striking with fountain pens. Even with intense ink (such as iron gall or shimmering inks), show-through remains minimal.
  • One page per day: Each daily page offers a 4×4 mm grid, a daily timeline, task checkboxes, a moon phase indicator, and the running day of the year. The layout provides structure without cluttering the space.
  • Thread-bound flat binding: The planner lies completely flat on the table when opened – without needing to be held down. Both pages are fully usable, even for wide handwriting, sketches, or collages that extend across the spine.
  • English edition, Monday start, January start: All text, month names, and weekdays completely in English – practical for international users, mixed languages, or anyone who plans and journals in English.

Use & Tips

  • Fountain pens and ink: Tomoe River Paper responds particularly expressively to water-based ink systems – color gradients, shading, and sheening come to life. Fine to medium nibs (EF, F, M) leave precise lines; broad nibs show distinct line variation. Allow ink to dry thoroughly before turning the page.
  • Quick-drying alternatives: Those who work with multiple writing instruments daily can supplement with oil-based ballpoint refills or quick-drying gel refills – they leave hardly any marks on the reverse side.
  • Journaling and decorated pages: The daily page offers enough space for structured entries such as habit trackers, meal logs, or sketches – the dotted dividing line optically separates the left planning area from the right free space.
  • Portability: A6 fits into almost any bag. The hardcover protects the pages directly, so no separate cover needs to be carried – ideal for anyone who takes their planner with them daily.
  • Decorative use: The ornamental vine motif of the cover invites you to treat the planner itself as a design object – on the desk, on the shelf, or as a backdrop for stationery flat-lay photography.

For Planner Enthusiasts

The V&A Series was created from collaboration between Hobonichi and the Victoria and Albert Museum London – an institution whose collections encompass historical textile, wallpaper, and ornamental designs from centuries past. The "Vine" motif draws on a classic European vine pattern that was particularly prevalent in 19th-century applied arts and is today counted among the V&A's iconic design reserves. The combination of Japanese planning craftsmanship and British design heritage makes this HON one of the most substantively anchored special designs in the Hobonichi collection.
