Hobonichi Planner 2027 HON Bow & Tie: Sheep Sheep Sheep (A5, eng.)
The Hobonichi Techo HON is the planner as a standalone book: The hardcover is directly bound to the book block, no separate cover needed. The 2027 edition in the Bow & Tie series features the motif "Sheep Sheep Sheep" – a sheep pattern executed in fine weave structure on the characteristically smooth, silk-shimmering green jacquard fabric from which neckties are also made. Inside, the Techo HON A5 works with Tomoe River paper and a daily page layout in a 3.7-mm grid – the English-language edition makes it internationally usable.
Highlights
- Bow & Tie cover made from necktie fabric: The hardcover is made from the same glossy polyester jacquard fabric used to manufacture neckties. The surface feels silky-smooth and displays the sheep motif in fine weave texture – visibly three-dimensional, not printed.
- Integrated hardcover concept: Cover and book block are firmly bound together. The Techo can be carried like an ordinary book and needs no additional sleeve – more compact than a Techo Cousin with separate cover.
- Tomoe River paper: Ultra-light and ink-resistant. The paper is characteristically known for its smooth surface and reliably holds ink – including from fountain pens – without showing through. Fountain pen inks dry evenly on the slightly satin surface.
- 180° thread binding: The book block opens completely flat on the table without needing to be held – a direct consequence of the thread binding that Hobonichi has used since the first generation.
- Daily page in 3.7-mm grid: Each day has a complete page with grid lines. The grid lines are printed in light ink and recede behind your own handwriting – usable as a guide or simply ignorable.
- Weekly pages in double-page layout: The A5 edition includes additional weekly pages, one week per double-page spread with hourly time divisions – useful for scheduled planning alongside the free daily log.
- Two ribbon bookmarks: Allow simultaneous marking at two locations – e.g., monthly calendar and current daily page.
- Silver-foil-stamped spine: Year and HON logo are silver-foil-stamped on the spine – easy to identify when the Techo is on the shelf.
Usage & Tips
- Fountain pens and Tomoe River: Tomoe River paper displays fountain pen inks with particular brilliance – shading and sheen show beautifully on the smooth surface. Users working with broad nibs or wet writers should allow for short drying times.
- Daily page as free space: The 3.7-mm grid is equally suitable for free text, sketches, sticker layouts, and structured bullet journal entries. The light grid lines don't interfere with drawing or dense writing.
- Weekly page for appointment planning: The 24-hour daily strip on the weekly double-page spread allows quick visual overview of blocked time periods – works well combined with the free daily log.
- HON without additional sleeve: The Bow & Tie cover is robust enough for daily use without an additional sleeve. Those who want to protect the fabric can add a transparent HON protective sleeve without obscuring the motif.
- Cross-year planning: The year index covers December 2026 through March 2028 – practical for projects that span the year change.
For Techo Enthusiasts
The Bow & Tie series uses the same jacquard weaving process used to manufacture high-quality silk neckties. The "Sheep Sheep Sheep" motif is woven into the fabric structure – not printed – and thus displays tactile depth that is noticeably different from smooth-coated hardcover cardboard to the touch. Tomoe River paper in HON versions from 2024 onwards has been refined in fiber structure: The surface is smoother, the paper lighter at the same thickness, and more resistant to ink bleed-through than older generations. This makes the A5 HON particularly interesting for users working with highly saturated inks or multiple ink colors on one page.
