Hobonichi Planner Techo 2027 Original Book (A6, eng.)
The Hobonichi Techo 2027 Original Book is the A6 daily planner that has carried the Hobonichi concept since 2002: one page per day, 3.7 mm dot grid, Tomoe River paper – all on 105 × 148 mm. The English-language edition is designed for anyone who wants to use their daily pages in English, and follows a Monday-to-Sunday format with the year beginning on 1 January 2027. The book is supplied without a cover and can be combined with any Hobonichi cover in A6 size.
Features
- Tomoe River S Paper (Sanzen): Since the 2025 edition, all Hobonichi planners use the newly produced Tomoe River S paper from Sanzen – finer in fibre structure, slightly smoother surface, and even more resistant to show-through than its predecessor. For fountain pen enthusiasts, this means: ink sits richly on the page, displays shading and sheen beautifully, but requires a little drying time.
- One Page Per Day, 365 Days: Each daily page features a 24-hour timeline on the left, checkbox fields for tasks at the top, and the entire grid space free for text, drawings, collages, or pasted mementos – with no preset sections that would reduce the available space.
- 3.7 mm Dot Grid: The grid has been set to 3.7 mm after extensive testing – tight enough for small, precise handwriting, yet wide enough for pens with medium or broad nibs to glide comfortably. The light grey printed lines visually recede and virtually disappear under dark ink.
- Thread Binding (Stitch-Binding): The binding allows a full 180° opening – both pages lie flat on the table without needing to hold the book. This makes broad writing, sketches across two pages, and gluing in photos or tickets considerably easier.
- Colour-Coded Monthly Pages: Each month is printed in its own colour, so you can quickly find the right section when flipping through.
- Daily Quotes (English): Each spread features an English-selected quotation from the Hobonichi web magazine – concise, readable, and not distracting from your own writing space.
- Rounded Page Corners: Minimises dog-ears and damage when carrying the book in your bag throughout the year.
- Individual Serial Number: A unique serial number is printed on the inside back cover – making each copy a one-of-a-kind piece.
Use & Tips
- Fountain Pens and Tomoe River: Tomoe River S displays ink shading and sheen beautifully. For quick writing, a fine to medium nib is recommended; broad nibs and flex nibs deliver impressive line variation, but require a short drying time before turning the page.
- Fineliners and Gel Pens: Fine pigment ink liners (0.3–0.5 mm) work very well for small handwriting on the 3.7 mm grid. Quick-drying gel refills reduce smudging risk on the smooth paper.
- Collage Use: The thread binding makes the book ideal for pasting in: train tickets, Polaroids, sticker snippets – even if individual pages become thicker from pasted materials, the book remains handy thanks to its rounded corners.
- Bullet Journalling and Habit Tracking: The open grid suits custom systems: checkboxes, habit trackers, weekly overviews, mind maps – everything can be set up freely without template constraints.
- Combining Covers: The Book is supplied without a cover. If you change your planner yearly, a good cover can be used for several years. Our LUIBAN range stocks matching Hobonichi covers in A6 size.
- Annual Overview and Index: The year index and monthly calendars span December 2026 through March 2028 – useful for planning ahead and looking back across the year boundary.
For Paper Enthusiasts
Since the 2025 edition, Hobonichi uses exclusively Tomoe River S paper from Sanzen – manufactured in Japan. The paper has been refined in three areas compared to the original Tomoegawa paper: greater resistance to show-through, reduced weight at the same thickness, and an even smoother surface through optimised fibre alignment. On this surface, water-based inks – especially those with gold, silver, or shimmer pigments – display pronounced sheening. Oil or pigment-based ballpoint refills dry instantly without smudging. Non-archival dye-based inks show particularly vivid colour saturation on Tomoe River S; for archival entries, pigment-based ink is the choice.
