The Hobonichi Techo 2027 Planner (A6) is a daily planner in a handy pocket format, entirely in English. At its heart is the gossamer-thin Tomoe River paper – featherlight yet durable, renowned for its silky surface that holds ink with precision. The layout follows the "one page per day" principle: plenty of open space, subtle 4 mm grid, no forced system. The planner is supplied without a cover and can be combined with any matching A6 Hobonichi cover.

Features

  • Tomoe River Paper: Gossamer-thin (approx. 52 g/m²) yet remarkably resistant to ink bleeding – minimal show-through and bleed-through. The smooth, slightly cool surface is excellent for fountain pens, gel pens and fineliner pens. Ink dries more slowly than on conventional paper – a writing pad (Shitajiki) is recommended when using wet nibs.
  • 4 mm Grid Paper (English Edition): The grid of the planner version is slightly larger than the Japanese original – 4 mm instead of 3.7 mm – to make writing in Latin characters more comfortable. The faintly printed grid lines recede visually and can be used as structure or ignored entirely.
  • One Page Per Day, January to December 2027: Each day gets a full page – no preset hourly grids or checkboxes. Diary, sketch, collage, planning: anything is possible.
  • Thread-bound Binding (Lay-flat): The saddle stitching allows the book to lie completely flat – both pages are equally accessible when writing, without the binding pressing or pages curling back.
  • Fully English Layout: Weekday names, month names, annual calendar, monthly calendar, annual index – all in English. An English-language quote appears on every other page.
  • Moon Phases: All Hobonichi planners display the moon phases on the corresponding day pages.
  • Week Starts: Monday.
  • Reference Pages: Practical bonus pages at the end of the planner – including sections for addresses, personal preferences and additional notes.

Use & Tips

  • Fountain Pens and Tomoe River: The paper reacts to fountain pen ink with pronounced shading and beautiful sheen effects with suitable inks – ideal for ink enthusiasts who want to see their inks in action. Due to the slow drying time, light pressure and a writing pad are recommended to prevent impressions transferring to the next page.
  • Quick-drying Refills and Ballpoints: Oil-based ballpoint refills and quick-drying gel refills work perfectly on Tomoe River – no smudging, no bleeding.
  • Scrapbooking and Mixed Media: Thin washi tapes, stickers, cut-out images and tickets can be easily glued in without the notebook swelling. Heavier watercolours or overly wet media can cause pages to buckle – stick with drier techniques here.
  • Bullet Journaling: The open daily format with no printed time grids is ideal for your own systems – rapid logging, habit trackers or daily reflection pages can be created freely.
  • Cover Combination: The planner block fits into all A6 Hobonichi covers from the LUIBAN range. A cover protects the thin booklet and makes it practical for everyday use in your bag or rucksack.
  • Year Transition: The planner includes calendar overviews that extend beyond January 2027 – handy for planning ahead into the next year.

For Planner Enthusiasts

The difference between the Planner and Original (A6) lies in the details: whilst the Original uses a 3.7 mm grid and coloured weekly structure, the Planner opts for a simplified, monochromatic layout with 4 mm grid – designed under the direction of Sonya Park (Arts&Science), deliberately simplified for use in all languages and writing cultures. Sundays are printed in red, all other days in charcoal grey. If you write in Latin script, you'll noticeably benefit from the larger grid spacing: letters with ascenders and descenders fit more comfortably in the lines without crowding. This makes the Planner the first choice for anyone who actually writes in their Hobonichi – not just sticks things in.
