The Hobonichi Graph Notebook in A6 format features an illustration on its matte grey-silver cover from the Moomin novel "Moominsummer Madness" – depicting Moominpappa desperately writing a theatrical script, with Moominmamma in the background. A vibrant red spine band provides a striking colour accent. Inside: 240 pages of Tomoe River Paper in the classic 3.7 mm grid, sewn binding, fully lay-flat opening.

Features

  • Tomoe River Paper, 240 pages: This exceptionally thin yet tear-resistant paper keeps the book to just 8 mm thick despite 240 pages. The smooth, slightly silky surface feels consistently pleasant under the nib – fountain pen ink flows richly without feathering or spreading.
  • 3.7 mm grid in four colours: The grid changes print colour every 60 pages – red, blue, green, violet. This allows you to divide the book into four thematic sections without tabs, or simply locate a specific period quickly.
  • Sewn binding, fully lay-flat opening: The sewn binding allows you to write right into the gutter – even with a broad brush or stub nib, you lose no space due to curvature or spring-back.
  • A6 format, compatible with Hobonichi Techo covers: The notebook fits precisely into all Hobonichi Techo sleeves in A6 format, so covers, pen holders and slip pockets can be used directly.
  • Moomin illustration, front and back: The front cover and back cover each show a scene from "Moominsummer Madness" – Moominpappa writing, and on the back revising the script. Silver foil embossing for title and Moomin logo on the spine.

Use & Tips

  • Fountain pens and Tomoe River Paper: The paper is renowned for its suitability with fountain pens – inks with medium flow properties look particularly beautiful. Aqueous inks dry more slowly on Tomoe River than on calendered paper; allow adequate drying time or include a blotting sheet.
  • Sketching and freehand drawing: The 3.7 mm grid is fine enough to serve as a subtle proportional guide when sketching without being dominant. Water-based fine liners and gel pens adhere well to the surface.
  • Make active use of coloured sections: Red for ideas, blue for notes, green for sketches, violet for references – or simply as quarterly divisions. The colour changes every 60 pages make transitions visible without sticky tabs.
  • As a complement to Hobonichi Techo: Housed in the matching Techo cover, the notebook functions as a permanent companion alongside your annual planner – for everything beyond your daily schedule.
  • Bullet journalling in compact format: A6 lies flat in your hand and fits in any jacket pocket. The consistent grid is ideal for trackers, lists and layouts that don't require A5 space.

For Paper Enthusiasts

Tomoe River Paper was originally developed for Hobonichi planners and is renowned for its extraordinary thinness combined with stability. The smooth surface is created through a special calendering process that compacts the fibres and produces a uniform ink path. Fountain pen inks with high pigment content – such as highly shimmering or iridescent inks – display their characteristic shading particularly distinctly on Tomoe River. Pigment-based inks and archival fountain pen inks require longer to dry completely; with a wet writing style, a writing pad (Pencil Board) is recommended to prevent ghosting on the next page.
