Hobonichi Cover Tragen: Red (A6)
The Hobonichi Tragen Cover in Red is a tri-fold A6 case crafted from soft, silky-shimmering nylon – designed to keep your Techo journal together with pens and stationery close at hand. The name tells the story: "Tragen" comes from German and means exactly that – to carry. It's the idea of taking everything you need daily in one compact, accessible package. The vibrant red is rich and striking, whilst the light beige interior lining provides a calm counterpoint.
Features
- Zip pocket with boxed gusset: The main compartment opens via zip and features an integral gusset – giving noticeably more volume than a flat pocket. Several pens, paperclips, notes or bulkier stationery accessories fit comfortably side by side.
- Leather zip pull: The zip slider is crafted from leather – grippy in everyday use, pleasant to the touch, and designed with deliberate simplicity.
- Magnetic closure with leather pad: The hidden magnet that holds the cover closed is backed with a soft leather patch – protecting the book pages from direct contact with the magnet.
- Soft nylon with subtle sheen: The fabric is supple and slightly textured, cool and smooth in the hand. More durable than it appears – practical for everyday use without becoming stiff.
- Light beige interior lining: The inside of the zip pocket is warm beige – makes finding small items easier and creates an intentional colour contrast with the red exterior.
- Handmade: Each case is individually assembled and sewn by hand. Minor variations in stitching or lining are inherent to the manufacturing process and are not defects.
- Fit: Designed for all A6 Hobonichi journals (Techo Original and Planner). Books with spines up to approximately 1.3 cm sit comfortably; slightly thicker books fit with a snugger fit.
Use & Tips
- Pen selection: The gusset pocket easily holds three to four slimmer pens (fine-tip pens, ballpoints, slim fountain pens) – or two thicker pens plus small accessories. A clip pen can be clipped into the inner pen holder, so your daily companion sits right on the journal.
- On-the-go setup: The tri-fold design holds the Techo journal on one side and the pocket on the other – your entire writing setup stays together in one piece, without needing a separate bag or case.
- Flat exterior pocket: In the outer area of the cover (between the fold panels) you can lay a weekly card, a sticky note pad or a debit card flat – quick access without opening the zip.
- Care: Nylon can be wiped down with a slightly damp cloth. Prolonged direct sunlight may cause the colour intensity to shift slightly.
- Check compatibility: If you're using a particularly thick journal (for example, with many glued-in pages or thick inserts), test the fit beforehand – the magnetic closure won't close properly if the contents are too bulky.
For Techo Enthusiasts
The Tragen series debuted with the Hobonichi 2024 Spring Lineup and has since been expanded with additional colours. The design emerged after several development iterations: the goal was a form that combines maximum storage function with consistently restrained aesthetics. Details like the silhouette of the zip pull were deliberately reduced to the simplest possible form – evident in the fact that no logo appears on the exterior. The A6 version of the Tragen is dimensioned slightly more generously than regular Hobonichi A6 covers to make full use of the gusset pocket. If you use the Tragen regularly as your daily carry-all solution, you'll notice that the soft nylon develops a subtle patina over time – without wearing out.
