Masking Tape Gift Box Set Wamon 5
The Wamon 5 Masking Tape gift box brings together six washi tape rolls featuring motifs from classical Japanese textile ornamentation: Asanoha (hemp leaf lattice), Nejiriume (twisted plum) and Samekomon (shark skin diamond pattern) – designs that have graced fabrics, ceramics and prints for centuries. The washi paper has a slightly textured, feather-light feel, is semi-translucent and tears cleanly by hand. The set comes packaged in a compact box measuring 60 × 105 × 60 mm, serving both as gift wrapping and storage container.
Features
- Six traditional patterns in two colour variations per design: Asanoha in Shuaka (cinnabar red) and Shinchu (brass yellow), Nejiriume in Shu (red) and Namari (lead grey), Samekomon in Outou (cherry blossom pink) and Asaginezu (mouse grey) – each pair is colour-matched and complements when layered together.
- Semi-translucent washi paper: The gentle transparency allows you to layer strips and create new tones or depth effects without completely obscuring what lies beneath.
- Adhesion without residue: The tape adheres securely to paper, glass, wood and most smooth surfaces and peels away cleanly – even after extended application.
- Hand-tearable: The washi structure tears in a controlled, straight line without need for scissors or craft knife.
- Writable surface: The matte paper surface accepts ink from fineline pens, brush pens and ballpoints directly – ideal for labelling the tape itself.
- Gift box doubles as storage: The box (60 × 105 × 60 mm) is sized so all six rolls stand neatly side by side and can be removed individually.
Use & Tips
- Layering with transparency effects: Lay a strip of Asanoha Shuaka over light paper and place Asanoha Shinchu slightly offset on top – the overlap creates a new, blended tone.
- Bullet journals and planners: The geometric patterns work perfectly as page borders, tab markers or dividing lines between weekly and monthly spreads. Write dates or categories directly onto the tape.
- Gift wrapping: Combine two colour-matched patterns from the same design pair as accent stripes on plain kraft paper – the colour pairings are carefully chosen to harmonise effortlessly.
- Scrapbooking and photo books: Secure photos with small tape pieces at the corners without damaging the reverse – and incorporate the pattern as a decorative element.
- Decorating small objects: Wrap flower pots, jars or candle holders with full strips; the diamond pattern of Samekomon looks particularly even on cylindrical surfaces.
- Combining with brush pens: Write calligraphy lettering on a wide strip and use it as a greeting message on envelopes or cards.
For Washi Enthusiasts
"Wamon" (和文) refers to Japanese ornamentation with roots in traditional craftsmanship: Asanoha is a six-pointed star pattern that has appeared on kimono fabrics since the Heian period (794–1185) and is associated with vitality. Nejiriume depicts stylised plum blossoms in twisted form – a classic motif of good fortune. Samekomon, the shark skin diamond pattern, was traditionally a favourite among ordinary townspeople during the Edo period and creates a particularly dense, surface-filling effect through its intricate detail. Kamoi Kakoshi, founded in Kurashiki in 1923, brings these ornaments to washi carrier paper made in the original production tradition from long plant fibres – resulting in the characteristic tensile strength despite the tape's light weight.
