LUIBAN Box for Kuretake Gansai Tambi Colors (for 8 pcs., HIPS)
The LUIBAN Box for Kuretake Gansai Tambi (8-pan) is manufactured in-house at LUIBAN in Germany on their own 3D printer – made from HIPS, a lightweight, impact-resistant thermoplastic with a matt, dry-smooth finish. The compartments are precisely sized for the large-format Gansai Tambi pans: eight colours sit securely without lateral slipping. Designed as a storage solution or personal gift box – not as a working palette for intensive painting use.
Features
- Precisely fitted for Gansai Tambi pans: The compartments are tailored to the dimensions of the large Gansai Tambi pans (approx. 48 × 28 mm). Eight pans sit flush and without play – no shifting during transport or in drawers.
- HIPS material: High-Impact Polystyrene is lighter than ABS, dimensionally stable and impact-resistant. The surface feels matt and dry-smooth – none of that slightly sticky feel you get with some PLA prints.
- In-house production: Each box is printed on demand at LUIBAN in Germany, not stockpiled. Minor dimensional tolerances between individual pieces are production-related and possible.
- Storage and presentation: The box is designed for quiet storage – as an organised space for individually purchased or set-removed pans, or as a display box for a curated colour selection.
- Personal gift box: Eight hand-picked Gansai Tambi pans in one box – perhaps a seasonal palette or a selection of classic sumi-e tones – makes for a more rounded gift than a standard set.
Use & Tips
- Build your own palette: Gansai Tambi is also available as individual pans. The box holds 8 colours of your choice – perfect for anyone who wants to configure their working palette from the full range.
- Storing spare pans: If you keep frequently used colours in multiple copies, use the box as an organised stock of replacement pans.
- Transport after a session: After painting, the pans go back in the box. The rigid compartments keep them in place during transport – for sketching trips or getting to a class.
- Keep solvents away: HIPS is sensitive to organic solvents (e.g. limonene, petrol). Store the box in dry conditions only and avoid contact with solvent-based cleaners.
- Not for heavy-duty use: The box is not designed for intensive painting with wet brushes or frequent opening and closing in workshop conditions – as a storage solution, however, it is durable.
For Watercolour and Gansai Enthusiasts
Gansai Tambi is valued by many watercolourists for its high pigment density and luminous, slightly opaque quality – especially in sumi-e and manga illustration. The HIPS box provides a neutral, non-staining storage environment: the material contains no plasticisers that could react with the binder of the pans. If you keep several colour sets organised by subject or project, you'll find here a slim, stackable solution without unnecessary weight.
