The Small Print Collection N°4 – Paleolithic brings together five offset prints depicting Stone Age tools from humanity's earliest period: flint stones and hand axes, shaped roughly 2.6 million years ago. Concept and design are by Bienvenue Studios in Switzerland, printed using the offset process in Zurich on Z-Offset natural paper with 400 g/m², an FSC-certified, uncoated cardstock featuring a matte, slightly textured surface and a pleasingly substantial feel in hand. Each of the five cards displays a different motif.

Features

  • Z-Offset natural paper, 400 g/m²: Uncoated paper without synthetic coating – the matte, slightly open-pored surface gives the printed motifs a warm, earthy quality that suits the Paleolithic subjects perfectly. The high weight provides each card with a substantial, quality feel in the hand.
  • Offset printing in Zurich: This Swiss printing process allows precise colour reproduction even on uncoated stock – the flint stones and tools appear differentiated and with soft colour depth.
  • 5 different motifs per set: Each of the five sheets shows a different Stone Age tool, making the set thematically complete with no repeated motifs.
  • FSC-certified paper: The Z-Offset natural paper carries FSC certification – the raw materials come from responsibly managed forests.
  • Format 104 × 140 mm: Smaller than an A6 sheet, yet large enough for the printed motif to make an impact – suitable for standard frames and B6-format envelopes.

Use & Tips

  • Framing and wall display: The 400 g/m² cards stand upright unframed and can be arranged on shelves or windowsills. In a passepartout frame or as part of a small gallery wall, the archaeological illustrations work like miniature graphics.
  • Postcard with substance: The natural paper accepts ballpoint pens, felt-tip pens and soft pencils well. As a written postcard, it suits collectors who wish to combine motif and message on a single sheet.
  • Gift enclosure or place card: The five different motifs can be used individually as table cards or gift tags – the Paleolithic subject lends a distinctive, narrative quality even to contemporary occasions.
  • Storage: For long-term storage without yellowing, keep the cards in a light-protected, dry environment in an acid-free sleeve – uncoated offset paper is durable and retains its colour over many years.

For Print and Paper Enthusiasts

Z-Offset natural paper of the kind produced by Ziegler Papier (Switzerland) is a so-called natural white fine paper line without optical brighteners – the slightly creamy natural colour of the paper comes from the material itself, not from bleaching or brightening. At 400 g/m², the paper sits firmly in the cardstock category: the surface is closed enough for sharp print details in the offset process, yet retains the characteristic feel of uncoated paper – tactile, slightly absorbent, with palpable substance. The printed image on natural paper appears softer and more matte compared to coated surfaces, which creates an organic depth with illustrative, drawn motifs such as the Paleolithic tools – something that simply cannot be achieved on glossy paper.
