Mini Folding Card 35mm Film
A small folding card with a big theme: the 35mm film – a motif for those who understand analogue photography not just as technique, but as a philosophy. The design plays with the light of golden and blue hour, those narrow windows of time when photographers are particularly keen to press the shutter. Printed using the risograph process with soya-based inks on uncoated, FSC-certified card – a format that deliberately remains handcrafted.
Features
- Riso printing with soya inks: The risograph process applies ink layer by layer through a stencil onto the paper – similar to screen printing. The soya-based ink seeps into the uncoated card and leaves behind a matte, slightly tactile print with warm colour depth. Slight misregistration between the colour layers is inherent to the printing process and part of the character of each individual copy.
- Every copy is unique: Because the soya inks work without drying agents and the colour registration varies minimally from print to print, small variations occur that make every card unmistakable.
- Uncoated FSC card: The open paper surface is essential for the riso process – the ink dries through absorption into the paper. The result: a slightly textured, matte surface with a pleasant, tactile feel.
- Folding card, blank inside: The card is unprinted inside – space for a personal message written with a fountain pen, ballpoint or fineliner.
- With grey envelope: Matching the understated print character, a grey envelope is included.
- Compact mini format: 80 × 104 mm – smaller than a standard greeting card, larger than a gift tag. Fits in any pocket and any envelope.
Use & Tips
- The blank inside takes water-based fountain pen ink well – the uncoated card absorbs the ink quickly, so smudging is rarely an issue.
- When used alongside a photo gift, a roll of film or an analogue photo album, the card carries the theme consistently further.
- The mini format works equally well as a gift tag or as a standalone card – the grey envelope gives it a clear, understated frame.
- If you want to keep or frame the card: riso printing doesn't tolerate direct rubbing – best not to run damp fingers over the printed side.
- For writing, gel pens or fountain pens with not-too-wet nibs are recommended; the uncoated surface rewards you with clean, precise lettering.
For Printing Process Enthusiasts
Risography works without heat and without solvent-based printing agents – the entire process is energy-efficient and produces virtually no hazardous waste. The stencils (so-called "masters") are made from plant fibres and are biodegradable. Soya-based inks contain no drying agent; they dry solely through absorption into uncoated paper. This makes the process ecologically sound, but also means: the ink sits on and within the paper's fibre structure, not on a coating – hence the characteristic tactility and sensitivity to mechanical rubbing. Each colour layer is printed separately, which in multicolour designs leads to the typical, slightly romantic misregistration that distinguishes riso prints from digital reproduction printing.
