KUM Watercolor Brush Faded Round #10
The KUM Faded Round #10 is a watercolor brush made from a combination of two different high-tech synthetic fibers – handcrafted in Germany. Size 10 makes it the largest round brush in the Faded series: full-bellied enough for expansive washes, pointed enough for clean lines and transitions. The matte black handle lies comfortably in the hand, with balanced weight for extended working sessions.
Features
- Two-fiber construction: The softer fiber consists of a blend of different fiber diameters – this creates extremely high water and paint absorption capacity and releases the medium evenly without dripping or stalling.
- Stiffer support fiber with hardening process: The second fiber is thermally stabilized during production. The result: greater shape recovery and control – the brush snaps back precisely into shape after each stroke.
- Medium-Soft hardness grade: Softer than a Kolinsky imitation, firmer than a pure wash brush. Ideal for modern watercolor techniques that demand both flow and controllability.
- Round shape size 10: The full-bodied body holds large amounts of paint for extensive washes; the tapered tip still allows for setting lines and working out edges.
- Matte black handle: Simple, timeless design without distraction – focus stays on your work.
- 100% handcrafted in Germany: Every brush is hand-tied and shaped.
Application & Tips
- Large areas and backgrounds: The full belly of the Round #10 holds so much paint that skies, water, and color transitions can be applied in one pass without reloading.
- Wet-on-wet: The even paint release makes the brush ideal for blending a second tone into moist color areas – the transition remains soft and controlled.
- Structural details for finishing: With light pressure on the tip, branches, grass blades, or architectural lines can be added immediately afterward without changing brushes.
- Gouache and acrylic (fluid): The Medium-Soft hardness grade also handles opaque media – the Faded Round #10 is equally suitable for gouache areas or fluid acrylic washes.
- Care: Synthetic fibers are easier to clean than natural hair. After use, lukewarm water is sufficient; for stubborn pigments, mild brush soap works well.
For Watercolor Enthusiasts
The Faded series was not developed as a Kolinsky imitation, but as an independent design: KUM deliberately positioned the Medium-Soft hardness grade between very soft wash brushes and somewhat stiffer Kolinsky replicas. For watercolorists working with modern, often spontaneous techniques – lots of water, open transitions, quick decisions – this middle path meets the demand for both spontaneity and control. Size 10 is the choice when creating generous formats or broad color areas without switching to a separate wash brush.
