The KUM Faded Angular #10 is a watercolour brush crafted from a two-component high-tech synthetic fibre – entirely handmade in Erlangen, Germany. The angled brush shape combines a narrow, tapered edge with a wide, flat side: two working techniques in a single brush. With its matt black wooden handle, it sits comfortably and balanced in your hand, without visually distracting from the painting process. All materials are 100% vegan – exclusively synthetic fibres, no animal hair.

• Two-component fibre blend: The softer fibre consists of a carefully balanced mix of different fibre diameters – this creates exceptionally high water and colour capacity, releasing the medium evenly and without streaks, even over long strokes.
• Special-hardened support fibres: The stiffer fibre component is stabilised through its own hardening process and gives the brush its springy recovery – the hair cone springs cleanly back to its original shape after every stroke.
• Medium-soft firmness: Deliberately positioned between very soft round wash brushes and the tighter spring-back of Kolinsky imitations – soft enough for flowing colour transitions, with enough tension for controlled contour lines at the angled tip.
• Angular shape, size #10: The angled brush tip allows you to use the same tool for both fine contour lines at the narrow edge and broad colour areas with the flat side – particularly efficient for botanical subjects.

Use & Tips

• Leaf shapes and botanical motifs: A complete leaf shape emerges from a single curved stroke – place the brush with the wide edge, apply pressure, lift towards the angled tip. Result: the characteristic leaf point without rework.
• Petals and floral details: Alternating pressure between the wide and narrow side creates natural movement in rose petals, poppies or eucalyptus branches – without complicated brush control.
• Loose watercolour as your main brush: Size #10 is large enough for spontaneous, expansive colour areas and precise enough to add details at the angled tip – it covers both requirements of a loose floral style.
• Glazing and wet-on-wet: The high storage capacity of the fibre blend allows long, even strokes over damp paper without needing to reload the brush – ideal for soft colour gradations in backgrounds.
• Cleaning: Synthetic fibres absorb pigment less deeply than natural hair – warm water and mild brush soap are enough to completely remove even intense watercolour paints. Let dry horizontally or tip-down.
