Berlin linen photo album natural long small
This Berlin photo album in landscape format is handmade – crafted page by page in a small Berlin workshop. The cover is wrapped in natural linen from old East German stock: a fabric with history, soft to the touch, warm in tone. Inside: cream-colored photo cardboard on 60 pages, separated by glassine paper with linen embossing.
Special Features
- Cover made of natural linen (East German stock): The weave has a slightly irregular, handcrafted texture – matte, soft, with a warm beige tone that clearly differs from industrially dyed synthetic surfaces.
- Acid-free photo cardboard 230 g/m², cream-white: No ink bleeding, no yellowing of glued photos over the years. Suitable for classic photo pockets as well as for directly glued prints.
- Glassine paper as divider pages, with linen embossing: Protects photo surfaces from scuffing and imprinting, visually echoes the textile theme of the cover.
- Landscape format 215 × 160 mm: Classic album proportion that works with both classic 10×15 prints and modern square formats – the page has enough space for two photos side by side or a single one with captions below.
- Handmade in Berlin: Bookbinding craftsmanship, not machine mass production. Visible in the careful gluing of the cover and the even page alignment.
Use & Tips
- Glue or insert photos: The 230g photo cardboard is stable enough for self-adhesive photo tape, photo corners or PVA glue – without warping the page.
- Writing with fountain pen or fine-liner: The cream-colored, slightly textured surface of the cardboard is well-suited for fountain pens with medium-width nibs and pigment-based fine-liners. Quick-drying oil-based ballpoint refills also work reliably.
- Travel or family album: The landscape format makes it a natural frame for landscape shots and group photos. 60 pages are plenty for an extended vacation or a single chapter of family history.
- As a gift: The natural linen cover needs no additional packaging – it carries a quiet, textile warmth that surprises upon opening.
- Long-term storage: Acid-free paper and acid-free cardboard are essential for archive-quality storage of photo prints. Additionally, a cool, dry storage location without direct light exposure is recommended.
For Bookbinding Enthusiasts
The glassine paper – gossamer-thin, slightly transparent, with an embossed linen structure – is a classic bookbinding protective paper that has been used in handmade albums and portfolio works since the 19th century. It not only provides mechanical protection but also absorbs residual moisture from freshly printed or developed prints. The natural linen fabric on the cover comes from East German production stock: a raw material that is rarely available in this quality and weave density today – with a characteristic, slightly grainy feel that clearly differs from modern bookbinding linen.
