Toyo Tool Box T-190 silver
The Toyo Stacking Box T-190 is a flat steel case in waistcoat-pocket format – compact enough for the desk, sturdy enough for the workshop. Manufactured from powder-coated sheet steel, pressed in Osaka using a deep-drawing process from a single piece: no welded seams, no weak points. The matte silver has a matter-of-fact, calm appearance without feeling cold – a finish that works equally well in a craftsman's environment or a tidy office shelf.
Features
- Seamless deep-drawn body: Top and bottom are each pressed from a single sheet of steel – without welded seams. This makes the box lightweight whilst remaining exceptionally torsion-resistant.
- One-touch closure: The side snap lock engages with a clear click and opens with one hand – no fiddling, no hunting.
- Embossed top and bottom: The textured surfaces are not mere decoration – they interlock when stacking and prevent stacked boxes from sliding sideways.
- Rounded edges: The sheet metal edges are cleanly formed, so there are no sharp edges – even when the box is grabbed quickly.
- Powder coating in silver: The surface is matt and resists fingerprints; small scratches are barely visible and do not compromise corrosion protection.
- Good Design Award & Long Life Design Award: Two Japanese design awards that attest to both the formal quality and the lasting everyday practicality of the T-190 series.
Use & Tips
- Desk organiser: The T-190 holds erasers, sharpeners, stamps, tape, spare refills – everything that disappears into a drawer and then goes missing. Multiple boxes side by side or stacked sort different categories visibly and within easy reach.
- Writing instrument accessories: Converters, cartridges, cleaning tools, replacement nibs – the shallow depth keeps such small items visible without everything rolling around together.
- Stacking with system: The embossed surfaces mechanically interlock. Three or four boxes stacked securely on top of one another, even on slightly uneven surfaces. One box for inks, one for tools, one for spare parts – neatly separated and instantly accessible.
- Workshop and kitchen: Screws, sewing needles, spices in small packets – the steel box is food-safe lacquered and can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
- Combining with other T-190 colours: All variants of the T-190 series are stackable with one another. Silver can be mixed with black, khaki or blue without the stacking geometry varying.
For Object Enthusiasts
The deep-drawing process that Toyo Steel has been using in Osaka since 1969 was a world first in tool box manufacturing at the time of its introduction: a single sheet of steel is formed in a press to create a completely seamless tray body. No welding points, no rivets, no glued joints – all the mechanical strength lies in the material itself. The result is a wall thickness that remains uniform across the entire surface, and a weight that is surprisingly light. Hold the box in your hand and tap the side, and you hear the dry, short ring of dense steel – no resonance, no afterglow.
