The Kobeha Graphilo Ciro is a notebook that follows a single idea consistently: white on white. The stiff cardboard cover bears the name Ciro as a colourless embossing – barely visible in raking light, otherwise invisible. Inside lies ivory-coloured Graphilo paper at 81.4 gsm, specially developed for fountain pens, which shows no feathering or show-through even with wet, saturated inks.

Features

  • "Invisible" ruling: The lines are visible enough when writing to keep your letters straight – when reading, they recede so far that the text appears almost as though written on plain paper. A deliberate design feature for those who appreciate clean text layouts.
  • Graphilo paper 81.4 gsm: Coated paper with a lightly textured surface that mimics the soft feel of uncoated paper whilst delivering the ink performance of coated stock. Ink colours, shades and sheening effects show particularly clearly on this surface.
  • Sturdy cardboard cover: Rigid enough to hold the notebook in one hand and write on it – more practical than a typical softcover, without the weight of a hardcover.
  • Sewn binding with flat lay-flat opening: The stitched binding allows it to lie completely flat at 180° – no resistance from the pages, no creasing at the spine.
  • Style format 120 × 210 mm: Narrower than standard A5, wider than pocket format: fits comfortably in the hand, fits into most A5-slim cases and is handbag-friendly without compromising on writing space.
  • Suito blotting paper included: A sheet of Kobeha Suito blotting paper is included – intended for dabbing wet ink before closing the notebook, particularly useful with wet or slow-drying inks.

Use & Tips

  • Fountain pens of all nib widths: Graphilo paper is designed for broad and wet nibs – stub nibs, italic forms and flex nibs develop their full character on this surface without ink running sideways.
  • Shimmer and sheening inks: The coated surface holds ink on the surface initially before it sinks in – this extends the window for sheening effects and allows glitter pigments to sit particularly well.
  • Journalling and daily notes: Those who like to read back through their notes benefit from the Ciro concept: the lines disappear visually once the page is full – the text appears clearer and more organised.
  • One-handed writing on the go: The narrow Style format and sturdy cover make this notebook the first choice for situations where no writing surface is available – standing on the train, at an event.
  • Letting ink dry: For very wet inks, place the included Suito blotting paper between the written page and the next page before closing the notebook.
  • Calligraphy and lettering: The smooth, low-resistance surface is ideal for pointed-nib calligraphy with thin-flowing inks – the nib point glides cleanly without catching or splaying.

For Paper Enthusiasts

Graphilo – from the Greek "graphein" (to write) and "philos" (to love) – is Kobeha's proprietary paper development from Kobe, Japan. At 81.4 gsm, it sits in the mid-weight range: heavy enough for two-sided writing with wet inks, light enough for 188 pages in a slim binding. The coating deliberately mimics the tactile feel of uncoated paper – the nib encounters slight resistance, not the smooth glide of high-gloss coatings. This makes Graphilo paper interesting for those who find calendered papers too slippery to write on. The Ciro concept – white ruled lines on an ivory background – was not optimised for writing, but for reading: the ruling guides your hand, then visually disappears completely.
