The Anterique brass grip section is the centerpiece of the BP1 ballpoint pen: the part your hand holds, and what gives the pen its warm, golden weight. Crafted from solid brass, it feels cool and heavy in the palm, a noticeable contrast to the lightweight plastic body of the rest of the pen. The factory setting includes a black, low-viscosity ballpoint refill with a 0.5 mm ball that runs with significantly less writing resistance than classic ballpoint inks.

Special Features

  • Grip section made of solid brass: The material brings pleasant heft that stabilizes the pen while writing and makes the pressure point controllable – especially during longer writing sessions.
  • Golden surface with living patina: Brass develops a characteristic toning over time. Fine production scratches that may occasionally occur can be smoothed with commercially available metal polish paste.
  • Low-viscosity oil-based ballpoint refill, 0.5 mm, black: The so-called "Mach Ball" ink flows significantly more evenly than conventional ballpoint ink – less blotting, less scratching, finer line quality at the 0.5 mm level. Not document-proof.
  • Ultra-precision engineered 0.5 mm ball point: The ball sits play-free in the tip, keeping the line quality precise and clean even when writing quickly.
  • Integrated spring in the refill system: A small pressure spring in the refill shaft regulates ink flow and prevents uncontrolled leaking – relevant during temperature fluctuations in everyday use.

Application & Tips

  • Combination with the Anterique BP1 plastic body: The brass part screws into the front shaft of the BP1 and replaces the original plastic grip section – for those who carry the pen frequently, the weight serves as a counterbalance to the clip end.
  • Writing on smooth paper: The fine 0.5 mm refill really shines on smooth, calendered paper – the line quality remains sharp and the ink dries quickly enough to avoid smudging.
  • Brass care: If you want to slow down the natural patina process, apply a thin layer of carnauba wax after polishing. If you like the living change of brass, simply leave the pen open – fingerprints speed up the process.
  • Refill replacement: The refill is compatible with Anterique's BP1 and BP2 refill systems. Replacement refills are available separately and can be changed without tools.

For Writing Instrument Enthusiasts

The brand name Anterique combines "Antique" and "Technique" – and this is particularly evident in the brass section. The design is inspired by American ballpoint pens from the 1960s, while the Mach Ball ink is a Japanese engineering achievement: ultra-low viscosity combined with a precision-engineered ball that sits play-free, creating an unusually consistent line quality for a ballpoint pen. Brass as a grip material is a deliberate choice in the ballpoint segment: the metal absorbs body heat slowly but initially feels cooler than aluminum or steel – a tactile contrast that makes the grip present and lively. The weight is concentrated at the front of the pen, which promotes a flatter writing grip angle.
