Hobonichi Stencil Basic

The Hobonichi Stencil Basic is a thin acrylic tool in card format, specially designed for Hobonichi Techo planners. The die-cut shapes – boxes, stars, hearts, numbers and additional symbols – align with the 3.7 mm grid of the Techo Original and Cousin, ensuring every mark lines up perfectly with the pre-printed lines. At 0.5 mm material thickness, the stencil lies flat in the cover pocket and is always within reach.

• 3.7 mm grid spacing: The stencil openings are precisely matched to the 3.7 mm dot grid of the Techo Original and Cousin – checkboxes and symbols automatically land on the grid without any measuring.

Use & Tips

• Systematic daily planning: The square cutout works perfectly as a checkbox for task lists. Its position on the grid aligns with the line spacing of the Techo – all entries on a page remain evenly aligned.
• Symbols as visual codes: Stars and hearts can be used as a personal marking system – for example, for priorities, reminders or category labels in your weekly calendar.
• Pen selection: Fine-liner and gel pens with 0.3–0.5 mm line width produce the cleanest shapes; with a thin-tipped brush pen, the cutouts can also be used as a guide for calligraphic lettering.
• Combination with other Techo pages: The stencil works equally well on the thin Tomoe River pages of the Techo – the acrylic lies flat without damaging the delicate paper surface.
• Storage: The stencil fits in the card pockets of many Techo covers and notebooks; alternatively, a simple binder clip keeps it together with other accessory cards.
