The Möbius+Ruppert round dual sharpener is machined from solid brass – substantial in the hand, cool to the touch, with a density that immediately confirms no plastic is at work here. The replaceable blades of hardened steel cut cleanly into the wood and wear evenly, without splintering. Two openings accommodate standard pencil diameters: 7.8 mm and 11 mm, covering both regular pencils and thick coloured pencils.

Features

  • Solid brass, not die-cast: The body is crafted from solid brass – this gives the sharpener a stable weight in your hand and prevents distortion under pressure whilst sharpening.
  • Two openings for 7.8 mm and 11 mm Ø: Suited to standard pencils (7.8 mm) and thicker coloured pencils, watercolour pencils or jumbo leads (11 mm) – one tool for both formats.
  • Replaceable blades of hardened steel: The blade can be replaced once it dulls – the brass body remains permanently useful. Replacement blades are available separately.
  • Hand-crafted sharpening precision from Erlangen: Manufactured in Germany at the traditional sharpener manufactory Möbius+Ruppert in Erlangen.

Use & Tips

  • For illustrators and artists: The 11 mm opening sharpens large colour pencils so a long, even lead is exposed – ideal for broad hatching or watercolour pencil work.
  • For writers and sketch artists: Standard pencils in 7.8 mm format – HB through 9B – receive a precisely centred point from the sharp steel blade with no lead breakage.
  • Replace the blade when wear increases: Once sharpening requires more pressure or the lead breaks rather than sharpening cleanly, the blade is dull. Replacement takes just seconds with a small screwdriver.
  • No catch tray: The sharpener has no container for shavings – work over a bin or mat.

For Pencil Enthusiasts

Brass oxidises over time and develops a natural patina – the sharpener becomes more characterful with use without losing function. Those who prefer a bright surface can polish it occasionally with a dry cloth. The blade fastening is standardised, so standard replacement blades in M+R format fit.
