The Kaweco Liliput ballpoint pen in brass is machined from a solid brass block using CNC turning — a compact, weighty metal instrument with clear design and just three housing components. At 97 mm in length, it fits into any trouser pocket, notebook case, and planner slot. The brass is untreated and lead-free: the surface develops an individual, golden-brown patina over time.

• Solid brass body: The pen is entirely turned from a single piece of brass — no plastic core, no coating. This creates a noticeably weighty, cool feel in the hand and a density that keeps the pen steady during writing.
• Heart-cam mechanism: The push mechanism operates with a metal heart-cam system. The ballpoint retracts silently — no clicking when activated.
• D1 refill (standard): The Liliput uses the standardised D1 ballpoint refill, available in line widths of 0.8 mm, 1.0 mm, and 1.2 mm, as well as in black and blue. All standard D1 refills are compatible — including oil-based ballpoint refills and fast-drying gel options in D1 format. It comes with a blue 1.0 mm refill.
• Natural patina: The untreated eco-brass is lead-free. The surface oxidises with use and contact: fingertips, grip habits, and temperature changes are recorded in the material — each pen develops its own distinctive appearance.
• Three-part construction: Housing, push button, and internal mechanism — the Liliput uses minimal components. Refill changes are made by unscrewing the push button.
• Made in Germany: Manufacture and assembly entirely in Germany.

• Planners & compact formats: 97 mm fits the spine of many compact notebooks and pocket planners. The pen sits without protruding — no overhang, no snagging.
• Refill choice for different papers: On smooth, calendered paper, fine 0.8 mm D1 refills work particularly precisely. On standard copy paper or in spiral notebooks, 1.0 mm is recommended for even lettering. Oil-based D1 ballpoint refills dry quickly and are gentle on delicate paper surfaces.
• Patina development by design: Those wanting the brass surface to age evenly carry the pen directly in their trouser pocket. Those preferring more contrast use a case — the grip zones then develop darker patina than the rest of the shaft.
• Cleaning & care: A slightly dampened cloth removes surface deposits. Kaweco offers Elsterglanz metal polish as a suitable care option to brighten the surface as desired — or simply let the patina develop naturally.
• Adding a clip: The Liliput ballpoint pen is supplied without a clip. Kaweco Liliput nostalgia clips can be attached as separate accessories.

Today's brass version of the ballpoint pen is machined from a solid brass block using CNC turning — the pen is not cast but precisely worked from the solid using material removal. The eco-brass used is lead-free and left uncoated, which enables patination: lacquered or coated housings would suppress this ageing process. The heart-cam mechanism is a purely metallic system without plastic guidance — the pressure point is direct and precise, with no play in the barrel. D1 refills are an international standard; in addition to Kaweco's own refills, many other manufacturers' products can be used, making the Liliput interesting for users who prefer specific writing properties — such as archival-quality refills or particularly low-viscosity inks.
