Kaweco Gel Roller Sport Brass
The Kaweco Sport Gel Roller in Brass is turned from solid, untreated brass – in the classic octagonal Sport shape that has remained unchanged since the 1930s. With the cap closed, it measures 10.5 cm and fits comfortably in any trouser pocket. When the cap is posted, it extends to a full writing length of around 13 cm. The weight of approximately 44–46 g is noticeably heavier than plastic or aluminium variants and gives your writing a calm, grounded character.
Features
- Solid, untreated brass: No lacquer, no coating – the raw surface feels cool and heavy, and develops its own unique patina over time. Those who appreciate the oxidised, characterful appearance let nature take its course; those who prefer the original finish can polish it occasionally with a soft cloth.
- Octagonal barrel: The eight flat surfaces prevent the pen from rolling away and give the grip clear orientation – the pen always sits the same way in your hand.
- Screw cap: The cap screws on rather than clipping – this reliably protects the gel refill and prevents accidental opening in your pocket.
- Postable cap: When the cap is posted onto the rear end, the pen extends to full writing length – the proven Sport formula: compact in your pocket, full-sized in your hand.
- Parker G2-compatible gel refill (0.7 mm): Factory-fitted with black gel refill. Not archival. The open G2/Parker standard format allows you to switch to any compatible gel or rollerball refill in different widths and colours.
Use & Tips
- Everyday and on the go: Thanks to its compact closed length (10.5 cm), the pen disappears into any trouser pocket without fuss – and is immediately ready to use at full length when writing.
- Smooth paper: The gel refill glides particularly smoothly on calendered, ink-proof paper. On textured or absorbent paper, drying time may be slightly longer – allowing it to dry briefly prevents smudging.
- Refill replacement: Parker G2-compatible gel rollerball or quick-drying gel refills (0.7 mm) are straightforward to insert. If you prefer water-based gel colours, you'll find broad compatibility in the G2 format.
- Cultivating or preserving the patina: Fingerprints and skin oils accelerate natural patination. Wiping occasionally with a soft, dry cloth keeps the surface clean without completely stopping the ageing process. For an even finish, brass polish applied with light pressure is recommended.
- Clip optional: The Kaweco Sport is supplied without a clip. Octagonal Sport clips (in gold, silver or bronze) are available as accessories and can be attached later.
For Writing Instrument Enthusiasts
The Sport in Brass follows the original 1935 design with its octagonal cross-section – a form originally executed in ebonite (hard rubber). The lead-free brass used today is left without surface sealing, so the metal structure reacts directly with air, moisture and skin oils. The result is a unique oxide patina for each specimen, which makes signs of use legible. If you own several Kaweco Sport variants: grip sections and refills are compatible between Sport models and can be mixed and matched.
