Kaweco Gel Roller Sport STEEL
The Kaweco Sport STEEL is a gel roller made of solid stainless steel, whose body is shaped by CNC milling and then brushed. The result is a matte, cool surface with substantial weight that noticeably relieves the hand while writing. The octagonal Kaweco housing comes here in metal – compact in the pocket, well-balanced on paper.
Special Features
- Brushed Stainless Steel: The housing is CNC-milled from raw stainless steel and receives a silky-matte surface through the brushed finish, which resists fingerprints and feels cool and smooth to the touch.
- Weight as a Writing Aid: The high weight of the metal body presses the roller onto the paper with minimal hand pressure – those who write long texts will notice that their hand has to work less.
- Gel Refill with Ceramic Ball: The ceramic ball rolls more evenly and with less friction resistance than a steel ball. The gel ink flows without interruption and leaves a rich, black line with minimal smudging – also suitable for left-handers.
- Compact Sport Format: Closed, the roller measures 10.5 cm – fits in waistcoat pockets, notebook spines, cases. With the cap attached, it grows to 13 cm and lies well-balanced in the hand.
- Threaded Cap in Kaweco Octagon Design: The cap closes with a thread, so it won't open unintentionally in the pocket. The cap head bears the Kaweco logo.
Application & Tips
- On smooth, calendered paper, the gel refill shows its best writing: the ink flows in a controlled manner without fraying – ideal for small handwriting or tight line spacing.
- Those who write in notebooks with thin pages should plan short writing breaks: gel ink dries faster than classic roller ink, which reduces bleed-through.
- The black gel refill can be replaced – the Kaweco Gel Rollerball Refill (G2 format) fits as a replacement.
- The weight makes the STEEL a good companion for office situations where you write for extended periods, such as filling out forms or taking notes in meetings.
- The short design is well-suited for on-the-go use – with the cap attached, it reaches normal pen length without appearing too long in a jacket pocket.
For Gel Roller Enthusiasts
The ceramic ball in the Kaweco roller differs from the steel ball used in classic ink rollers through a smoother, harder surface and lower susceptibility to corrosion from water-based gel ink. In practice, this means: more uniform ink flow throughout the refill's lifespan and no "bleeding" at pressure peaks. The gel ink itself is water-based, dries relatively quickly, and is water-resistant – not archival in the sense of DIN ISO 12757, but practically resistant to moisture. The body, milled solid from stainless steel without plastic inserts, is durable and resistant to mechanical stress.
