Six small plates crafted from solid brass – designed to label boxes, folders, drawers, notebooks and albums with clear, legible and durable lettering. The warm gold-toned metal carries character from the outset; over time, the copper in the brass oxidises and reveals an individual patina that makes each plate unique. Inspired by the label plates found in old printer and archive drawers.

• Solid brass, living material: The plates are made from solid brass – uncoated, unlacquered. The cool, smooth feel of the metal changes over months and years: the copper in the brass oxidises in air and through skin contact, creating an uneven, deep patina that makes each plate individual.
• Three mounting options: Side through-holes allow nailing to wooden boxes or stitching to leather surfaces and notebook covers. Adhesive pads included enable quick, residue-free mounting on smooth surfaces without tools.
• Compact format: 45 × 18 mm – large enough for precise lettering (paper, card, typeface label), narrow enough for drawer fronts, folder spines or notebook covers.
• Set of six plates: One set covers a complete shelf row, a box collection or multiple notebooks all at once.

Use & Tips

• Wooden boxes & archive boxes: Fasten with small nails through the side holes directly into wood – this keeps the holder secure, and the lettered paper strip can be replaced at any time.
• Leather covers & notebooks: Stitch through the holes with fine linen thread or leather cord onto the cover. The brass looks warm and subtly industrial on natural brown leather.
• Drawers & office shelves: Stick the adhesive pad to the drawer front or folder spine – the lettering strip can be pulled out if contents change.
• Lettering: Narrow strips of paper or card fit perfectly into the rail format. For permanent lettering, a fine nib with waterproof or archival ink is ideal; for changeable content, a soft pencil or fine ballpoint works just as well.
• Shape the patina actively: If you want to speed up oxidation, wipe the brass briefly with a slightly damp cloth and let it air dry. A dry cotton cloth is enough for a polished new shine.

The label holders are from the TRC Brass Products line by Traveler's Company, Japan – a series of solid brass objects deliberately made without protective lacquer so the material can breathe and age. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc; the copper reacts with oxygen and moisture (and the lipids in skin oils) to form copper oxide and copper carbonate – the typical amber and greenish-brown tones of a lived-in patina. Anyone using several plates at the same time will notice that each develops slightly different colour over time, depending on light exposure and frequency of handling.
