TRC Fountain Pen Brass
The TRC fountain pen in brass sleeve by Traveler's Company is a modular pen made from solid brass – compact when screwed together for your pocket, extended to full writing length when assembled. The steel nib in Fine (F) produces an even, controlled line, equally suited to jotting notes on the move or writing in your Traveler's Notebook. Raw brass develops its own character over time: the cool gold-yellow of the new surface transforms through use and skin contact into deeper, warmer tones.
Features
- Modular pen system: The fountain pen screws into the brass sleeve – cap and sleeve separate for transport, then the sleeve slides on the back as a posting cap for writing. The pen grows from a 102 mm carry format to a comfortable writing length.
- Solid brass eyelet at the cap end: The screwed-in eyelet takes a strap, cord or carabiner – perfect for attaching the fountain pen to your Traveler's Notebook, bag or keychain. The eyelet unscrews if a smoother profile is preferred; the clip is attached to it.
- Steel nib, Fine (F) – European sizing: The F nib meets European standards: a precise, rather fine line that uses little ink and dries particularly cleanly on smooth, permanent paper. Ideal for fine handwriting and tight line spacing.
- Living brass surface: The unsealed brass oxidises and patinas with every use. Scratches and handling marks become part of the surface, making each pen unique – a tool that wears its character proudly.
- Standard International short cartridge: The fountain pen takes standard International short cartridges. A black cartridge is included. Alternatively, a converter can be used – so you can fill from any ink bottle.
Use & Tips
- Traveler's Notebook as natural home: The narrow 11 mm barrel fits directly into the pen holder of the Traveler's Notebook. When assembled, the fountain pen balances well in the hand – weight distributes comfortably to your writing hand through the heavier sleeve.
- Choosing ink: On smooth, calendered paper, water-based fountain pen inks work beautifully – text dries clearly without feathering. For on-the-go use, ink with medium drying time is recommended; very wet inks need a little longer on more absorbent travel paper.
- Cultivate the patina: If you want to actively develop the surface, leave the pen untreated in your hand – skin oils and friction accelerate oxidation evenly. If you want to preserve the shine, occasionally use a fine polishing cloth.
- Remove the clip for a minimal look: The eyelet at the cap end can be loosened, which also removes the clip. The pen then gets a completely smooth, cylindrical profile – and rolls on sloped desks.
- Converter instead of cartridge: With a standard International converter, the fountain pen can be filled directly from an ink bottle – this opens up your ink choice to the entire range of compatible fountain pen colours.
For Brass Enthusiasts
The body is manufactured in a pressing shop in Japan – a production method that shapes brass through cold forming without weakening the material. Raw, unsealed brass reacts to acids, perspiration and UV light: the surface undergoes an individual colour development over time from rich gold-yellow through warmer orange tones to deep bronze tones. This living patina is different on every pen – depending on how often and how it is used. Those wishing to accelerate the development can briefly treat the pen in a weak ammonia vapour atmosphere; those wishing to reverse it can polish it back to its original state with a brass polishing cloth.
