The Uni Dermatograph No. 7600 is an oil-based wax crayon with paper wrapping and a pull cord – a Japanese classic that leaves marks on virtually any surface where ink could never gain purchase. The nib, composed of wax, talc and pigments, is soft enough to write on glass, metal, plastic, ceramic, film and paper, and can be wiped clean without residue from smooth, non-porous surfaces. This set contains all 12 colours in the range.
Features
- Oil-based wax nib (wax, talc, pigments): adheres to non-absorbent surfaces such as glass, metal, plastic, ceramic, film and paper – everywhere ink or felt-tip pens fail to grip.
- Pull cord instead of sharpener: the paper wrapping is opened by pulling the integrated cord and removed gradually – the nib remains undamaged and stays exactly as long as needed.
- Line width 1.0–4.4 mm depending on angle of inclination: the rounded nib tip allows both fine marks and broad, legible lines on rough or uneven surfaces.
- Wipeable from smooth surfaces: marks on glass or metal can be removed with a damp cloth or finger without leaving residue – practical for temporary labelling in the workshop, laboratory or kitchen.
- 12 colours in the set: brown, red, pink, orange, yellow, white, yellow-green, green, light blue, indigo, purple, black – for colour-coded marking or creative applications.
- Round paper barrel, ø 8.7 mm, length 17.6 cm, weight approx. 10.4 g: lightweight and grippy, comfortable in the hand even during extended use.

Use & Tips
- Labelling glass: petri dishes, test tubes, jam jars or photo frames can be labelled directly with the Dermatograph – the mark holds up to normal handling but can be wiped away with a damp cloth whenever needed.
- Marking metal parts: in the workshop and industry, the pen is ideal for identifying sheet metal, pipes or workpieces before cutting or drilling, as the nib also adheres to greasy or slightly oily metal surfaces.
- Colour-coding in the laboratory or kitchen: multiple colours enable rapid visual organisation systems on containers, trays or shelves.
- Paper and cardboard: on normal paper, the soft nib produces a rich, slightly waxy line – well suited for sketches, layout marking or packing labels in shipping.
- Pull the cord gradually: only unwrap as much paper as you need right now – this keeps the nib better protected and less prone to breaking.
- White nib on dark substrates: the white colour has good coverage on black cardboard, dark glass or dark metal – useful for labelling that would be invisible on a light background.

The Dermatograph No. 7600 has been manufactured in Japan for decades and is regarded as the reference standard among grease crayons of its class. The nib is based not on pure grease like classic glass writers, but on an oil-based wax-talc-pigment blend: the talc regulates consistency and prevents excessive smudging, while the oil base ensures pigment adhesion on non-absorbent surfaces. The pigmentation is not archivally permanent in the documentary sense – for permanent labelling on paper, other media are recommended. For temporary or semi-permanent marking on hard surfaces, however, the combination of adhesion and wipability is hard to replace.
