Traveler's Notebook passport size of blue leather

The Traveler's Notebook in Passport Size is a vegetable-tanned cowhide cover in pocket format, hand-cut and hand-crafted in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The leather is 2 mm thick, natural and without excessive surface treatment – rough, lively, with palpable texture from the first touch. The blue reminds of the depth of ink just before drying: a saturated, dark indigo with slight irregularity in tone, as natural-tanned leather shows. With dimensions of 13.5 × 10 cm, the cover fits in any trouser and jacket pocket – smaller than a passport, more robust than an ordinary notebook.

Special Features

• Vegetable-tanned, hand-cut cowhide: The leather is tanned with tannin from plant materials, not with chrome salts. This means: no sealing, no embossing – the surface develops patina, reacts to heat, moisture and abrasion. Scratches and water stains change the texture and are explicitly desired.
• Natural leather fat as white powder: When first opened, a fine white powder lies on the surface – natural leather fat from tanning. Massaging in with a soft cloth protects the leather and slightly intensifies the colour.
• Sealed inner cord with exchangeable inserts: The blank insert is attached with a tin-sealed cord inside. The inserts can be removed at any time and replaced with other refills – lined, squared, dot, watercolour paper, monthly calendar or organiser inserts in passport format.
• Blue closure rubber band + spare rubber band: The outer rubber band keeps the cover closed and is colour-matched to the blue leather. A spare rubber band is included.
• Linen protective bag included: The cover comes with a linen bag that can be used for storage or transport.

Use & Tips

• Passport as wallet-journal: The format fits exactly next to a passport in the inside pocket. With a zipper case (refill 004) as a second insert, a compact combination of notebook and travel wallet is created – space for tickets, travel passes and change.
• Multiple inserts at the same time: With connecting rubber bands (refill 011), 2–3 passport refills can be clamped in parallel – for example a blank insert for free notes, a monthly calendar and a kraft paper folder for boarding passes and small cards.
• Initial care when unpacking: Massage the white powder on the leather with a dry linen cloth. The leather absorbs the fat, the surface becomes more even and supple – the blue colour becomes slightly more vibrant.
• Writing with fountain pens: The included blank refill uses MD Paper, a paper developed in Japan and specially designed for writing with fountain pens – low showthrough, pleasant ink flow, slightly cream-coloured surface.
• Building a long-term archive: Completed passport notebooks go into the refill binder (016), while the leather cover continues to be used. This creates a growing, personal archive – travel journals, sketchbooks, note collections – all in the same handy format.
• Personalise: The rubber band can be decorated with small brass charms or beads. Stamps, stickers and stamps on the leather enhance the lived character of the cover.

The passport format is smaller than an A6 sheet and considerably more compact than the regular size – the inserts measure 89 × 124 mm. The leather cover itself measures 134 × 98 × 10 mm; the included linen bag 153 × 129 mm. The thickness of approximately 2 mm is characteristic of natural, unprressed cowhide: it gives slightly when bent, feels somewhat stiff at first and becomes noticeably more supple with increasing use. The blue tone is deeper and more saturated in reality than in many product photos – comparable to a dark blue-black that appears bluish or slightly greenish depending on the light. The leather cover is designed for the Traveler's Company passport insert system.
